Happy Tuesday sweet friends. This is such a joyous post for me to write! Let’s not waste another moment. It’s time to look at the Kitchen Renovation Week 8 Sink, Backsplash, and Faucet.
Need to catch up?
Here are Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5, Week 6, and Week 7.
Kitchen Renovation Week 8 Sink, Backsplash and Faucet
I am extremely happy to report that I now have a sink with running water! For the past 2 1/2 months, this has been my kitchen. Behind the door on the right is a small powder room that contains a small sink.
Longtime readers may recognize that this is the bathroom that was once called the “Bad Gas Station Bathroom“. For new readers, it was extra fancy in that it had a wine rack above the sink. Yep, IN the bathroom. But we gave it a classy makeover. Still, this before photo always makes me chuckle and I think we all could use a smile.
It is not lost on me that just as I was getting a big sink with hot running water there are many people in this world who will never have this luxury or have recently lost their entire home due to war. So let me say that I am so very, very grateful.
The Backsplash
In keeping with the theme of a classic kitchen, I wanted to install white subway tile. This tile is a bit different than a traditional subway tile. It is a warm, matte white. It also has a slightly wavy design that despite the many angles I tried the wave couldn’t be captured on camera.
We made the decision to run the tile above the window for a clean finish as well as a way to hide a flaw. This original window is the devil. It is not plumb. Meaning it is not level. Between a continuation of the tile and a straight window frame that covered the flaw, the eye is fooled.
The tile is Maiolica White Matte Ceramic Tile made by Canvas. It is a very budget-priced tile that we found at Floor & Decor.
Tip: Get extra tile pieces as it does tend to be a bit fragile.
We used MAPEI Keracolor Unsanded Grout in the color Avalanche.
For the caulking: MAPEI Keracaulk U Paintable Latex Caulk in Avalanche was selected.
Everything AND The Kitchen Sink
Because our countertops are made of quartz we opted to also select a white quartz 33-inch double bowl undermount sink.
To keep a clean finish a white disposal flange and strainer were also selected.
Now for the jewelry.
This is the Delta Trinsic Faucet in Champagne Bronze. It features a single-handle, pull-down sprayer.
This is Mr. Decor’s dream faucet.
The secret to a successful marriage is that there is give and take. Home renovation can be quite taxing on a marriage if you are inflexible and only think of your own wishes.
It’s a good faucet.
Because I know someone will ask.
My choice would have been a brass bridge kitchen faucet. It’s a choice solely based on looks.
BUT, I listened to Mr. Decor’s smart reasoning that the Delta faucet would be much easier to turn on when my hands are covered in goo. He knows me too well. I always have some sort of gooey project going. Smile.
Other Pretty Details
Let’s take it from the top. The light fixture was covered in THIS POST.
I made the roll-up curtain from a pale pink cotton~linen estate sale fabric. It’s a pretty look for spring. I plan to change the curtain out each season. Let me know in the comments if you are interested in a DIY post on how to make the curtain.
The $10 herb garden will be covered in an upcoming post/video.
The white round plate and soap dispenser came from Target. The plate is in the dollar section and the soap dispenser was on $3 clearance in the bathroom aisle.
The small cut crystal vase belonged to Grandma Jingles. The happy daffodils were grown by me.
Did I miss anything?
Disclosure: Mr. Decor and I paid for all of the products listed in this post ourselves. Nothing was gifted. I have attached affiliate links for the products to assist in the search if you are looking for something similar.
I’ll be back on Friday!

Your kitchen is beautiful and functional, as I knew it would be! Great color choices. I can actually see the waviness in the tile. Our kitchen faucet is very similar and also a Delta. Did you know that Delta makes good toilets? We had to replace the two in our house and used Deltas.
I would be interested in a tutorial on the curtain.

Home stretch! It looks grway, Laura. We had the Delta faucet like that when we renovate dour kitchen. It was great to just tap with a wrist or back of hand. Good decision.

Laura, it’s looking fantastic. I like the tile and your pink curtain is so pretty. I love a double sink — I never figured how those with a big single one get by! Kevin and Molly have that faucet. I’m still trying to figure out how to get it to work right! Maybe I need everyday training!

I was in the process of remodeling my small, galley kitchen with the help of a lady I had hired when due to illness in the family she had to leave. Stuck on my own I was overwhelmed by the many choices and had to completely stop. The kitchen sink I purchased is literally in my hallway.
A subway tile backsplash is still on my list BUT how do you make the decision between matte and shiny?
Thx,
Paula

How nice to have running water again! I agree about give and take. It seems no renovation goes completely as planned, or is able to be done just exactly as we’d like, so it’s valuable to be flexible.

Every update gets prettier! I love all the classic touches chosen.
Can’t wait for the full reveal!

Oh, I feel your pain! Last year we put on an addition…mostly so we could have a larger kitchen. I still don’t know how we survived without a sink for so long.
I know exactly what wavy tile style you chose. Love! (I’m not a fan of the high-gloss tiles.
I love my new kitchen and all the room I have. My faucet is a lot like yours…and it IS easy when my hands are covered in goo.
Hugs!

Everything is coming along great!!! Mr. Decor is right (darn it!) on the faucet. BUT the other one looks so cool!!! With that being said, the first time your hands are super goopy you will be thanking him again!!! The one you got is very attractive also. Besides with the beauty of all that brickwork nobody will even notice the faucet!!!
We are all feeling a bit sad for the shape of the world today. Yes, running water, a warm bed and a hot shower can be considered a luxury. I get it….your feelings….enjoy your new kitchen.

Beautiful Laura and I have that same faucet and love it. My hands are always full of flour or dough or something. …it seems and a quick swipe and there is water. I love your choice of tile so clean and crisp and pretty. Can’t wait to see the rest of the kitchen. Yes, we are so fortunate because we live in the U.S. and I pray for the people of Ukraine daily. Your light above the sink is perfect. Have a great day my friend.
