Hello sweet friends. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Are you Dressed In Green? Is your table decorated for the celebration?
One of my all-time favorite tablescapes was when I used cabbages as vases.
Way back in 2013, my Saint Patrick’s Day tablescapes featured velvet and rhinestones.
I have dressed my table today too but it is actually doing double duty for an upcoming post. BUT, I can show you what I am wearing.
Of course, there is a story. In 1942 the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPS) were organized. They were the first women to fly U.S. military aircraft on non-combat missions.
Here in Texas, a training program was created at Howard Hughes airport in Houston. Missions were flown out of Laredo Army Airfield in Laredo, Harlingen Army Air Field in Harlingen, as well as other places. This year marks the 80th anniversary. As many of you know Mr. Decor is a retired Air Force Veteran. We would like to pay our respects to the surviving WASPs who will attend the Homecoming.
I did not need to be told twice to “Dress In Your best 1940s Inspired Outfits.
The event will take place in April. Here in Texas the weather could be blazing hot or freezing cold.
I wanted to be prepared.
The Patterns
The skirt is made from a vintage pattern that was re-released by Simplicity 8462.
It is the perfect project for a beginner.
I made it from wool and love the drape and swish!
For the long-sleeved blouse, I used a vintage New York Pattern 1176. It went together quite well. Because the pattern is unmarked (as vintage patterns of the time were sold) I would classify this as an intermediate pattern as it expects you to be well familiar with sewing techniques and terms that a new sewist might not know.
The fabric is a vintage cotton organdy and the lace is Edwardian. I found both at an estate sale.
My 1940s gold wire pin is lightweight enough to be a pretty accent.
We’ll be having some fun foods similar to what was featured HERE.
As well as enjoying one of my Irish film favorites listed HERE.
Éire go Brách!

Laura, I love that there’s always a story. You can wear anything, I swear. Love this — and all the photos.

You are the best storyteller! I remember the wire pins.

The stole really adds that great vintage touch!

Btw, i was once privileged to name one of the WASPS as a distinguished alumna of Boston’s Girls’ Latin School.
