The Bad Gas Station Bathroom is No More

Today is reveal day where you finally get to see the complete transformation of a well-used room. The Bad Gas Station Bathroom is No More.

This remodel was done in just six short weeks on a budget of $500.

The Bad Gas Station Bathroom is No More

A year and a half ago we purchased our 30-year-old home, Storybook Cottage. We have slowly been updating each room. This small powder room truly needed for a makeover.

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane to show you what we started with:

Starting from the ground up we wanted to update the warped tile linoleum floor.

The Bad Gas Station Bathroom is No More

Remember when sponge painting was all the rage? Well, it was this brown sponged wall treatment that earned this bathroom its moniker – the bad gas station bathroom. The yellowed sink and spray-painted faucet helped add to the ambiance as well.

The Bad Gas Station Bathroom is No More

Many loyal DTA readers were completely heartbroken when we decided to remove the grapevine wallpaper border and wine rack. Yes folks, a wine rack… complete with a wineglass storage system, IN the bathroom.

The Bad Gas Station Bathroom is No More

This was the nautical-themed inspiration board for the space.

The Bad Gas Station Bathroom is No More

A big challenge was photographing the finished space. I don’t think I ever mentioned that this half bath measures a miniscule 6’ by 3’.

In the image below, taken with a wide-angle lens, you can see three walls in one shot.

The Bad Gas Station Bathroom is No More

Mr. Decor and I began the makeover by first replacing the linoleum with ceramic tile laid in a running bond pattern.

I found a tiny antique oriental rug to soften the flooring.

The faded colors are a perfect match to the sand colored flooring and navy vanity.

The vanity, as you may recall, used to sport a chippy black finish.

It now features a lovely shade of dark blue with new chrome hardware.

I love how it looks against the pale blue walls.

I am so thrilled with our new sink.

t features a gorgeous widespread Arterra Faucet in a polished chrome finish.

Price Pfister generously partnered with Decor To Adore and provided all of the new bathroom hardware to include the Arterra Towel Ring.

Mr. Decor wanted to make sure that I shared his favorite new feature ~ the Arterra Paper Holder.

When the tissue roll is empty you simply just lift the bar to replace it.

Mr. Decor grew up in Panama and the Bridge of the Americas is a landmark that holds a special place in his heart.

On another wall, a lovely lakeside watercolor picks up the colors of the rug, wall, and vanity colors.

The painting is joined by a collection of seashells.

One room challenge Decor To Adore

Whenever we are on vacation we love to beach comb and over the years have gathered quite a lovely collection of shells and sea glass.

We’ll add other art in time. For now, a few of our favorite shells rest on the windowsill.

I wanted as much light as possible to filter into the bathroom. This lightweight gauzy Roman shade fits the bill beautifully. It provides much-needed privacy while keeping with the beach theme.

Love it! Your newly finished little bath room is way too classy for any garage now. 😀
The colours are perfect and look so sharp with the shiny polished chrome fixtures.
But basically you did it in a week! Which is even more amazing!
Great work! It is missing it's wine rack…but it is still classy! lol
Your renos are always so impressive. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Applause! Love how it turned out. That toilet paper holder is very smart- I can see why your hubby loves it. The seashells looks great the way you displayed them and I like the artwork- especially the one of the bridge in Panama since it has a special meaning to your family. Excellent job!

It looks lovely!! Not much bigger than our 2 tiny full size bathrooms and I know what you mean about trying to photograph a small space like that, but you've done it wonderfully. I love the idea of painting the vanity that deep shade of blue – it's lovely. Gives me ideas for our own home, though right now, all of my attention is on being outside in the yard since we have such a short growing season here – have to make the most of that. 🙂
Anyway – great work as always, Laura (and Mr. Decor)!

Laura, this looks amazing! You really did transform that space in a small time. Thank goodness the wine rack is gone. 🙂

I love the blues especially on the cabinets. The hardware is the jewelry of the room. Love it!

I also love the new sink, pretty mirror, and sleek, navy vanity cabinet. The artwork and shells are perfect, and the gauzy, Roman shade is one of my favorite elements of all. Bravo, my friend!! Oh Laura, what a lovely transformation! The wall color is so calming and a nice contrast to the navy cabinet. Your art work is so thoughtfully chosen and the shells bring back treasured memories. The antique rug adds a nice pop of muted color and looks great against the tile.
I'm going to comment here on your vintage tablecloth transformed into a gardening apron because my iPad likes to shut down and reload at your blog for some reason! Anyhow…the apron is just darling and you're even more darling!! The Fashionista took cute pics of you!
Thanks for hosting your party, too. ❤️

I fully support any toilet paper holder that makes it easy for anyone in the house to change the roll! I don't know why I'm the only one who ends up doing it! Anyway, love the light blue walls and navy cabinet. I was just thinking about doing that in my guest bathroom, so I'm excited to see how it might look. Great job!
