A Gunne Sax Inspired Holiday Dress

Happy Fashion Friday Friends! This is a special holiday edition. I created A Gunne Sax Inspired Holiday Dress for Sweet Guy’s special gal.

Last fall I created an autumnal themed Gunne Sax inspired dress and shared a bit of the company’s history in this post.

Sewing A Gunne Sax Dress

Recently when I asked Sweet Guy’s special gal, Megan, what she would like for Christmas she asked if I could sew her a dress. She adored the Gunne Sax styles of the late 60’s and early 70’s which featured medieval and Renaissance touches.

I loved the idea of using touches of velvet for a holiday dress.

Simplicity 9276

In looking through my collection of vintage patterns we settled on Simplicity 9276. She liked the idea of having a removable velvet bodice that she could wear with other things.

It was a lovely pattern to sew and I would recommend it for a beginner.

I used vintage fabric from my stash. The green velvet was a nod to UNT and the Mean Green as this is where Megan is attending art school.

The dress fabric features a delicate heart print which is perfect for my son’s sweetheart.

The fabric also spells out NOEL in tiny gold letters. But you really have to view the fabric very closely to know that it is a holiday print.

The dress looks so DARLING on her!

Megan wore her frock to a mother daughter holiday tea at the Farmers Branch Historical Park.

The Fashionista also wore a dress that I had made and shared HERE.

Michele, Megan’s mom, looked stunning in a peacock blue satin skirt.

Beautiful gowns for these gorgeous ladies! I love the styles and yes, the velvet is perfect for Christmas time but would make any outfit look special and festive. Very clever idea to make it separate. You are so sweet and kind to make these beautiful dresses up. I am sure they will be well loved and worn with pride.
Thank you for sharing the lovely photos. 🙂
