Happy Good Friday friends! We have had a few glorious days this Holy Week. So I decided to create some social distancing Spring Fashion Fun.
Spring Fashion Fun
Sweet Guy has not complained ONCE about having to stay home. Nor a whimper that his mom is currently homeschooling him and added HOME EC and ART to his curriculum. His Sweet Gal has also sheltered at home for the past three consecutive weeks. So I set up a sweet table in the side garden where they could enjoy an afternoon picnic date. The price of admission for Sweet Gal was to model a dress I had recently finished as a birthday gift for the Fashionista. I needed to check the fit and see if the final dress was the Prairie Chic/Flamenco look dear daughter was hoping for. (It was!)
Simplicity 8489
To create the pale green dress I used a vintage Simplicity pattern number 8489.
I don’t think I will sew it again. It has an upside-down “U” shaped bodice that was pretty tricky to inset.
The dress is “View 2”. I added an 8 inch ruffle to the bottom. This was created by sewing four 10 x 36 inch rectangular strips together.
I found the sweet deer print cotton fabric at an estate sale. The selvage of the fabric had “The Villager” brand with the year 1966 printed on it. The pattern was also found at an estate sale.
With a vintage estate sale zipper and thread the total cost of the dress was less than $5.00.
The sleeves are fabulously full!
It will be a cool and easy to wear look perfect for the spring and hot Nashville summers.
Simplicity 8504
My dress is a pattern from Simplicity 8504. The 1930’s style frock is from their vintage reproduction line.
I am wearing “View C”.
I would classify this as an intermediate skill level pattern. The bodice is a bit tricky with a side zipper insertion.
I love the shirred (smocked style) of the sleeves.
The skirt is a lovely six gore design style.
I am “pear-shaped” and often can’t wear the “bias cut” drape of 1930’s fashion but this style works.
I purchased the pattern on sale for $1.99. The sheer cotton/rayon 60-inch wide fabric was found in the Dallas Fabric District for $3 a yard. I purchased 3 yards. The covered button kit was also on sale and the vintage thread and zipper was from an estate sale. This brought the cost of this dress to around $15.00. Shoes are vintage.
I hope you have a lovely Easter weekend!

Those are darling dresses and you both look fabulous. I’d say Sweet Guy may have picked a winner there! The table looks so pretty too. What a great idea. I’m glad they could see each other.

A young should learn some home ec skills. My son, who was the world’s pickiest eater as a child, has become quite an adventurous cook as an adult.

I forgot to add that I love your dresses!
