A Christmas From Days Gone By
Last week I shared my Swinging 60’s Home Tour which was chock full of vintage Christmas decor.
Today I am going even further back to one hundred years ago.
As many of you know I volunteer at the Farmers Branch Historical Park. One of the structures on the site is a Queen Anne style home.
The Queen Anne style of architecture can be identified with details such as crossed gables, turrets, or cupolas, wrap-around porches and porticos.
The Queen Anne Victorian Cottage at Farmers Branch was originally built at 501 West Broadway in Gainesville, Texas, in 1885.
It was moved to the Historical Park in April 1992 and restored to its 1885 appearance.

As you enter the front door you are greeted with stunning woodwork and gorgeous stained glass. The wallpaper is a nod to the Egyptian Revival which was popular in American decorative arts throughout the 19th century.
To the right of the entrance is a stunning parlor.
This year the holiday theme is Christmas in the 1920s.
Christmas trees in the Roaring 20’s favored girth over height.
It was fashionable to build a tiered box, drape it with fabric and decorate it with a village or children’s toys.
Little House Christmas
Some of you may recognize the room from when I did a photo shoot there a few years back.

I adore this amazing Eastlake hutch and desk in the family room.
The formal dining room is set for a feast.
The room is kept somewhat dark to protect the antiques.
The sideboard holds delicious holiday themed desserts.
The back door is located in the kitchen which is one of my favorite rooms in the house. You’ll have to take the tour to see it though! We’ll sneak out and head over to the general store.
The General Store
The General Store is my very favorite building on the property.
It too is currently set up to what a proprietor might have carried in the 1920s.
What dad wants for Christmas…at the turn of the century.

So glad I got to see some of the beautiful rooms of this house! I didn’t know about the shape of the Christmas tree in the 20’s………..I was wondering why it looked kind of funny! My favorite style of furniture is Eastlake.
