Hello and welcome to the Storybook Cottage Little Women Inspired Holiday Home Tour. I am participating in this lovely holiday hop organized by my friend Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. If you are coming over from Designing Vibes I am so glad that you are here. Wasn’t Erica’s home so lovely?
Little Women Inspired Holiday Home Tour
I have loved the novel Little Women since I was a young girl. My daughter is named after the character Beth. I usually watch the 1994 film version at least once each holiday season. Since Thanksgiving I have been sharing Little Women inspired posts. They include various crafts, sewing projects and of course decor.
So many of the lovely passages include delectable descriptions involving food so I thought this year’s tour should start in the kitchen.
We spent most of 2022 renovating our kitchen.
The hearth is one of the most busiest areas.
It’s simply decorated with greenery and a bit of copper.
I’ve been cooking quite a few of the recipes from the Little Women Cookbook.
I wanted simple gingham curtains for the window. However, I had an off sewing day and came up short on my measurements.
So, I added a little petticoat of lace to the bottom.
The antique shelf in the dining area is probably my favorite area this season.
The school slate is a tongue in cheek nod to Amy’s misadventures at school.
I added bakers twine and other kitchen accessories to surround it.
Let Us Be Elegant or Die Living Room
The star of the show is the mantel.
I shared all of the inspiration and several other images of the mantel in THIS POST.
I love how the Prince of Wales mirror reflects the mantel.
A silver tray groups this year’s paperwhite bulbs, another favorite Louisa May Alcott book and my collection of antique sleigh bells. I encourage visitors to pick up the red ribbons and give them a ring. The sound is simply magical.
On the other side of the room is the Little Women inspired Christmas tree.
It features Victorian cones, Laurie’s top hat, Amy’s ice skates and more.
This year’s ornament craft can be found HERE.
The bannister features greenery, red ribbon and a few lovely selections from my antique Christmas card collection. They are held on with clothespins. (A nod to Amy and her vanity.)
More antique cards can be found on the coffee table.
I’ll be sharing the formal dining area with afternoon tea décor and recipes in a future post.
For those of you who have read Decor To Adore for awhile you may recall that Mr. Decor has a December birthday. A few years ago I began the tradition of creating a birthday Advent calendar just for him. This year’s offering is a nod to the mailbox that was shared by the March and Laurence households. Inside it hold various letters that contain gift cards or tags that correspond with numbered gifts.
You can see previous Advent birthday calendars HERE and HERE.
Right next door to the living room is the sunroom.
Silk In The Sunroom
The Victorian tabletop tree is placed in the center of the room. Marmee’s special gifts and the March sisters books await Christmas morning.
I could image Beth snuggling up on the antique daybed. So it was covered in one of my cozy antique Victorian crazy quilts.
Here is a close up of some of the glorious silk used on it.
The tree is simply decorated with small candles and a popcorn and cranberry garland. Jo’s scribbling cap is the topper.
Beth’s dolls look on. (My Grandma Jingles ran a doll hospital for many years.)
I hope you have enjoyed this Little Women Inspired Holiday Home Tour.
Up next is Clean and Scentsible. You will love Jenn’s holiday decorating ideas!
I’ll be back on Friday,
Laura

Gorgeous tour! Your kitchen renovation is amazing – especially the brick. It’s always fun decorating a space for Christmas for the first time! I love how the colors pop off the white. I hope you and your family have a happy holiday season.

I soooo admire your creativity, Laura! Little Women was actually one of my favorites as an adolescent.! Your home looks beautiful and all of the hard work in your kitchen really paid off…it is stunning! Such a pleasure touring with you. 🙂

Laura, it is exquisite! Ilove how you’ve carried the theme through — but it is never precious, never one of those “I don’t want to be there because it’s TOO thematically cute!” It’s elegant, warm, charming and just downright delightful with so many beautiful touches. I love the Little Women tree and the care put into the ornaments. Your kitchen looks wonderful for Christmas and that shelf is a gem. I love every bit!

I absolutely love your themed tour, Laura. Little Women used to be one of my favorites as a child. I even have the “meg” Madam Alexander doll from my childhood. Your kitchen looks so beautiful and I love the hearth and all that brick. The copper looks perfect hanging in that space. Happy Holidays.

I love the red and white and how you’ve incorporated the Little Women theme throughout your vignettes! The brickwork in your kitchen is gorgeous and the copper looks fantastic against it. Great tour – Happy Christmas!

This theme is so sweet and the red and white makes everything look so merry! I still love the way your brick around the kitchen hearth and fireplace came out and the new appliances look amazing. So wonderful to be on this tour with you again – Merry Christmas Laura!!

What an ADORABLE Christmas theme!! I totally ‘feel’ the vintage, old-fashioned vibe of that book through your decorating. The mantel is just beautiful and I love all of the vintage postcard you used throughout the living area. Your tree ties in so nicely as well. This was a pleasure to look at. Merry Christmas!
