Creative Accessories In The Summer Kitchen

Hello sweet friends, I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. Today I am sharing Creative Accessories In The Summer Kitchen here at Storybook Cottage.

Creative Accessories In The Summer Kitchen

Every other month my dear friend Cindy of County Road 407 hosts the bi monthly Lifestyle of Love hop. The theme this time is breadboards.

If you are coming over from Common Ground may I say, Welcome! Wasn’t Debra’s vintage collection amazing?

At first I was not going to participate as my mind automatically envisioned having a large collections of beautiful boards like these.

Collection of Boards

But as I was deep cleaning and decorating my kitchen for the summer I thought, “Boy, I do have a few boards and ideas that I could share.”

Now I have both decor boards and what I call “real” breadboards/ aka cutting boards. There are three real boards that always stay with my knives. These are the boards that I use to cut meat, vegetables and other things. They are in the far corner of the photo below and that is the closest I’ll share because they are well used, stained and not very pretty.

Another actual use board is the very large board that I keep on the counter in the hearth.

If I am cooking a red sauce or frying something on the left burners I place the board on the left hand side to protect the German Schmear finish on the bricks.

Show Boards

Now you may have heard of the term show towels ~ nice towels that are never used except by guests.

I now bring you show boards.

This round board with small feet was purchased at an artisanal market. It has been used over and over in the kitchen as you will soon see.

Right now it is doing duty as the anchor piece for a small centerpiece grouping.

I also often use show boards on the kitchen shelf.

Kitchen decor

I have several themed boards that include a bunny, a Christmas tree and this fish shaped board. These boards are often found at the dollar store and dollar section of Target.

I Spy

Last years summer decor featured the round board. I like how the boards add warmth, texture and interest.

My old favorite was also hanging around in this spring decor vignette.

I also have some teeny tiny cutting boards that I found at Tuesday Morning for pocket change. I am so sad that store has also now gone the way of the Dodo bird.

You can see a glimpse of the wee boards in A Cozy Winter Kitchen.

I think you’re getting the idea that decor pieces, that can be used over and over, are always great investments.

Charcuterie

I also have a few boards that fall into the show board category but they are also used for food.

Mr. Decor actually made the board that was shared in my DIY Halloween Charcuterie Board post.

I’ve made many nosh boards over the years, but I think the Pink and Burgundy board is still my favorite.

I hope you haven’t become bored of boards.

Fingers crossed that Mr. Decor won’t read this post and tell me I’m banned from buying any more boards. (He’s done that with dishes. LOL)

Up next is Le Cultivateur. Emily’s collection is truly lovely.

lol

I’ll be back on Tuesday.

It was so fun to see all the different ways you use breadboards throughout the year, Laura! I love your themed charcuterie boards. They are almost too pretty to eat. Thank you for sharing Susan’s IG account. Her entire feed is stunning. Hugs and happy summer, CoCo

Uh oh. Hope he doesn’t read it either. I would be so sad if I couldn’t get more dishes. Thankfully I only have one breadboard so it will be a while for me to have to limit myself. šŸ˜‰ I think the next one I buy will have little feet like yours. Love all of your displayed examples. Glad you changed your mind too and joined us.
