Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the May edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by the amazing Cindy of County Road 407. If you are coming over from A Stroll Thru Life let me say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”. Wasn’t Marty’s patriotic porch so fun? Today’s post here on DTA features Summer Holiday Inspired Shelf Decor.
Patriotic Palooza
This month’s theme is Patriotic Palooza. Our inspiration photo was found on Edith & Evelyn via Pinterest. The challenge is that our décor has to have a flag in it somehow.
The image features:
- A flag.
- Red, white and blue color palette.
- White background.
- Rustic mid-tone wood.
Summer Holiday Inspired Shelf Decor
Well this was a challenge indeed.
My husband is a retired Air Force veteran. A flag hangs on our porch 24/7. It is even correctly lit at night. I also have a rather large collection of flags in various sizes. Could I find a single one? Nope. I am STILL unpacking items that were boxed up during our recent renovations.
But here is a nice photo from a past challenge showing some of the flags I would have loved to of used.
Last week I FINALLY shared my kitchen reveal. One photo featured my 100 year old shelf decorated for spring. It’s now boiling hot in Texas. So it’s time to take spring down.
Find The Flag
The vignette included all of the inspiration image features. Sort of.
- A flag.
- Red, white and blue color palette.
- White background.
- Rustic mid-tone wood.
There are plenty of red, white and beautiful elements.
The wood tone comes from a trivet.
I adore the happy flag inspired pinwheels.
There’s also a wee flag in the printable. I think that totally counts, don’t you?

hi laura,
I love, love the shelf and that little lantern and the framed sign. I am sorting through my decor and try to organize via colors (red lanterns for all the “red” holidays). And I saw your little lantern and realized I had a red one too stashed with Christmas!
So pretty.
Adding you to my feedly feed (and all the ladies). xo laura in Colorado

Love all of your patriotic touches but those aprons have my heart. We can’t keep our flag out all the time even though I’d love too. We can’t light it properly and I won’t be the one the neighbors talk about. :/ Thank you for joining us. And enjoy decorating your perfectly white kitchen that will go will every single holiday imaginable! pinned

What a charming, patriotic shelf display! So happy that you’re getting to enjoy decorating your beautiful new kitchen, but it does take awhile to recover from the packing:(

The pinwheel flags are adorable! I need to dig out my flag wreath I made last year. It can stay on the front porch until after the Fourth, or maybe longer. We need to show our colors, ladies!
