Edwardian Fall Frolic

Hello sweet friends! How are your Thanksgiving plans shaping up? I’ll be in the kitchen most of the day today and tomorrow. I created a new outfit for the occasion. To try it out Gracie the doxie and I had an Edwardian Fall Frolic.

Every fall the sixteen trees at Storybook Cottage remind us they are here. Gracie LOVES nothing better than to race through a freshly rake leaf pile.

I wanted to capture a small bit of the joy so I made a pretty fall skirt with a wool checked fabric I purchased at the Pendleton outlet for $2.50 a yard.

Folkwear 216

I used the Folkwear 216 pattern and created the short view skirt.

The pattern has good, clear instructions. I put the skirt together in a day.

I have to say that I do prefer the Folkwear walking skirt, pattern number 209 that I made last year as it is a bit fuller.

This is as much swish as this skirt can muster.

Another good swishy skirt was made for the sporting outfit in THIS POST.

However, the skirt is comfortable and I will probably make a few more blouses to pair with it.

I love it — and your leaves! WOW! Gracie is certainly having fun and I’m glad you have a raking companion!

    Happy Thanksgiving, my friend.

What a beautiful day to be out in the sunshine with your pup! Love your outfit. I remember my mom, aunts and grandmothers when I was young wearing warm woolen skirts all winter. Slacks were just not acceptable back then. It was quite a change when they started wearing slacks. At first it was just dusty chores around home but eventually they became brave enough to wear them in public (still not to church though). Your blouse is so pretty and I love the dainty brooch on your collar and the lace edging. Perfect!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! 🙂

Hi Laura, this was an adorable video! Gracie truly looks so thrilled to be frolicing(sp?) in the leaves. Your blouse & the details are lovely.
Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving. I am late viewing this as for some reason, I am not getting your weekly posts. Still trying to figure it out.
