Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the November edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by the amazing Cindy of County Road 407. If you are coming over from Our Southern Home let me say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”. This is the second craft post in my holiday decorating series, Swinging 60s Holiday Fun Felt Garland.
Swinging 60s Holiday Fun Felt Garland
Every year I select a new holiday decor theme for Storybook Cottage. Yes, it is exhausting. But I gotta keep it fresh for my beloved readers. LOL! This month’s challenge was to create a holiday garland.
Over the years I have created many, many garlands.

A Little House Christmas Red Mitten Garland
Then there is the post I wrote way back in 2008 that still makes me cry.
Swinging 60s Inspiration
In looking to make the garland fit my Swinging 60s theme I found a traditional look from Rosemary Clooney and family.
I kind of love this floral themed garland.
Everything but the kitchen sink. Who else had a Raggedy Ann and Andy?
I was searching for a garland that would look good with my white Christmas tree. Flocked trees were HUGE in the 60s!
Here’s an image that combined a white tree with a green garland.
Hmmm. I remember folding down the pages of both the Sears and Montgomery Wards catalog. Anyone else?
I thought this was an interesting look. I love the big teardrop ornaments.
Then I found this pastel themed Christmas card that really put my creativity into high gear.
What if I scooped up all the felt scraps that remained from my Dickens Pine Cone Carolers and cut them into Swinging 60s ornament shapes?
It took just one sappy Christmas movie to cut the scrap felt into various teardrop shapes.
If you don’t want to cut the shapes out freehand then try googling “leaf template”.
Then I just sewed them continuously together on my sewing machine. But you could totally hot glue the shapes to bright colored twine or yard.
I don’t decorate my home for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. So for now the garland is hanging off of the turquoise shelf in the master bedroom.
The garland might get moved around. It might stay. Mr. Decor loves it as he is a fan of bright, happy colors.
I hope this fun and easy craft brings you joy.
Up next is DIY Beautify. You will adore her garland.
I’ll see you tomorrow with one last fall themed post that you won’t want to miss.

Laura, really fun, quick and easy craft to make!! I do love it draping over your bed. 🙂 And all the old 60’s photographs you found are terrific! My parents had a lot of mid-century furniture. The clean lines always draw me… See you soon!
Hugs,
Barb 🙂

Loved that walk down memory lane. And yes, I loved it when mom would give me the super thick catalogs to look at. I remember oohing and awing at so many things! My white coat with hood and matching muff was a fave! I can see why your hubs would love the leaf garland, it’s so happy! So cute! Thanks for joining in. You always make me smile. Pinned

I would keep that cute garland and carolers right where they are — they’re really lovely in the bright bedroom with the teal pillows. It belongs there! It really is charming and so happy. I love the mid-century modern vibe and the colors are great! What fun!

Love your retro flashback pics and this fun felt garland! Yes, the Sears and Wards catalogs. My brother and I loved it when the Christmas wish book’s arrived; we’d spend hours laying on the floor looking at it; good times:) Felt is so much fun to use for the holidays!

This year’s theme is going to be so cute and a walk down memory lane for me! My brother and sisters would go through the Sears wish book and write our names by what we wanted. And some of our Christmas gifts were actually ordered from Sears!

Your felt garland is very pretty and a fun accent in your 60s theme bedroom decor. It does look like a craft that would have been in a magazine from the era, especially in those fresh colours and with the pinked edges and mod shapes. I just love your story of the sweet garland your grandma saved for you. Love comes in so many forms. {{{hugs}}}
Our home was traditional red and green while I was growing up. A few years before my mother passed away she decorated her tree all in purple. She found lights, garlands, ornaments and beads. It was her year of the purple tree. We shared her purple decorations among us so we all have that memory when we came across them among the regular red and green trims.
Thank you for sharing your lovely home and decorating ideas. 🙂

Laura, what a blast from the past. I remember some of those Christmas style decorations. Your felt leaves are really pretty and so adaptable to different color schemes.
