A Tasha Tudor Inspired Holiday Dollhouse

Hello my friends. I hope today finds you happy! Longtime readers know that I have been a fan of miniatures for many years. Here on DTA, I have created many vignettes of tiny delights. So I knew it was a must to feature A Tasha Tudor Inspired Holiday Dollhouse.

Tasha Tudor, the wonderful author, and illustrator of over 100 books was a lover of miniatures. I touched upon this in The Sparrow Post.

It was Tasha’s mother, Rosamund, who would create her first doll. Over the years the two would create clothing, furniture, and accessories for the doll.

In September 1955 Life Magazine covered the famous doll wedding between Melissa Shakespeare and Captain Thaddeus Crane, two of Tasha’s dolls.

Even as an adult Tasha continued to collect and commission miniature works of art. This resulted in a collection that includes musical instruments, tiny printed books, museum-quality furniture, a gilded birdcage, and even a working stove.

In 1996 Tasha Tudor’s magnificent dollhouse collection caught the eye of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum curators at Colonial Williamsburg. The museum wanted to host an exhibition of the dollhouse. However, much of Tasha’s dollhouse had been built into the walls of her home, Corgi Cottage.

The museum decided to build a replica of Tasha’s home. It was made complete with a goat barn and greenhouse in one-quarter-human-scale.

The popularity of the dollhouse resulted in a book, Tasha Tudor’s Dollhouse: A Lifetime in Miniature, being written in 1999. It shares gorgeous images of Tasha’s little world including Emma Birdwhistle and her lovely Christmas tree.

In writing a post about Tasha Tudo’s dollhouse I have to mention that she has several books that have beautiful paintings that often feature her dolls. My two favorites are The Dolls’ Christmas and A Is for Annabelle: A Doll’s Alphabet.

Inspired by Tasha I decided to create a miniature room that many would love. I see creating a complete house in the future.

A Little Sewing Room

Here is my wee dollhouse delight. It is a jolly holiday sewing room.

It’s enchanting, Laura. I love the ornament box on the floor by the tree. And all the Tasha photos are wonderful. She really was something, wasn’t she?

What a perfect box to turn into a dollhouse! One of the things that I was so mesmerized by when we toured Corgi Cottage was her dollhouse. I just wanted to stand there and savor each & every little detail! Unfortunately, the tour must go on, so I had to drag myself away. At least I have the book to study at my leisure! Also, you would love my sister Andrea’s dolllhouse. She bought one at Toys R Us and turned it into a Regency period cottage. She has posted some pictures on Take Peace in the past.
