Welcome to a very special post. I am joining the Sacred Christmas Themed Blog Hop hosted by my dear friend Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home. If you are coming from Our Southern Home may I say “Merry Christmas, I am so glad you are here!” Please join me in Celebrating Advent With Tasha Tudor.
Celebrating Advent With Tasha Tudor
Tasha Tudor, one of America’s most beloved author-illustrators of children’s literature, is probably most well known for her iconic Christmas cards.
Her exquisite holiday watercolors often featured children staring in awe of the nativity.
Various animals such as birds, cats, and her beloved corgis often joined in the adoration.
In 1947, Tasha began a thirty-plus year relationship working with the American Artists Group.
The Irene Dash Greeting Card Company division published her Christmas card designs annually through 1979.
Tasha wrote and/or illustrated over 100 books in the course of her career. Many of the books were seasonal delights.
One of the first contained her classic images in The Night Before Christmas. A few of my favorites are Take Joy! The Tasha Tudor Christmas Book published in 1966. As well Forever Christmas, published in 2000, and her last holiday book Corgiville Christmas, in 2003.
In The Master Bedroom
Tasha’s joyful images were a very strong influence during my childhood. They always filled me with a sense of peace.
In the master bedroom, our wee tree is a nod to the Nativity and Tasha’s snow-covered Corgi Cottage located in Vermont.
Other Mangers
We have various manger scenes, also known as nativities, crèches, or cribs, of various styles placed throughout the house.
My favorite is the schwibbogen we purchased while living in Germany. It is an arched decorative light holder from the Ore Mountain (Erzgebirge) region of Saxony.
It truly shines a light on the question:
WHY A STABLE?
This past Sunday we lit the Angel candle. The fourth and last candle on the Advent wreath symbolizes LOVE.
The Gunn family wishes you Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.
May all of these gifts of the season be yours eternally.
We’ll be back tomorrow with this year’s holiday dancing video.
Up next is Thistle Key Lane with a darling angel printable!

Dearest Laura, I did not realize how many Christmas cards Tasha Tudor had illustrated. They are so detailed and charming. Thank you for sharing those and thank you also for sharing your thoughts behind that first Christmas night. I just don’t understand how anyone could live their life without Christ in their hearts, guiding them through their life and giving them peace and comfort when they need it. Thank you so much for sharing how having Jesus in your heart and life makes all the difference. Merry CHRISTmas to you sweet Friend!!!

Such a beautiful post, Laura. I remember the Tasha Tudor books and illustrations from when my girls were little. I always thought they were so sweet and gentle and humble. Thankyou for sharing them during this Christmas season. Peace and blessings to you and your family this Christmas and for the year ahead.

I don’t recall ever seeing a TT card or book. Probably did and just don’t remember. They are truly lovely. I loved the card with the manger on the bottom and angels on top inside a tree. That was beautiful! Your mangers were wonderful too. I’ve looked for years for just the right manger and have never found one I loved. I don’t want one with the 3 kings and so many have all of that stuff. I enjoyed this post a lot. I too feel He was born in a stable for the same reason. God’s sacrificial lamb is for ALL of us. Hope the Gunn family is well blessed this merriest of seasons. Big hugs.

Beautiful glimpses of Christmas at your house. I love nativity scenes and have several of them throughout the house to remind me of Christ’s coming to earth. Merry Christmas, Laura and family.

I love Tasha Tudor. I live in Marblehead which is where her first house was when she was born. It has been extensively remodeled and doesn’t look anything like it did when she lived there but it is still quite a thrill to walk on the same streets that she did when she was a girl. The sad part of the story is that her brother drowned in Marblehead harbor. She has a cookbook which I just ordered and plan on making some recipes over the winter.

Laura,
What a lovely post. Those illustrations are just precious. Your nativity collection is so lovely. I’ve been wanting a schwibbogen for years. I think I need to be on the lookout for one for next year. I wish we had purchased one of these as opposed to a clock when we visited Germany over 20 years ago.
