Oh how I adore verdigris lanterns! Natural verdigris is the patina that is formed when copper, brass, or bronze is exposed to air or seawater over a period of time. Antique statuary and lanterns with a natural verdigris finish are highly sought after and can sell for thousands of dollars. This is the light fixture that was in our entryway. It isn’t horrible at all….in fact we sold it for a great price on Craigslist. The problem was/is that our entryway is on the dark side as it has no ... View the Post
A Valentine Gift for our Cupola Francis Ford
Oh, I love a good cupola. This post is A Valentine Gift for our Cupola Francis Ford. Some of these glorious domes also have fantastic weathervanes. Cupolas were often used in barns for ventilation and of course, weathervanes have been used for centuries to show the direction of the wind. The most traditional weathervane designs are chickens, ships, arrows, and horses. Not all weathervanes have the points of the compass (North, South, East West). Antique weathervanes can command a ... Provençal Buffet Receives a Valentine Makeover Three years ago I gave a dated Thomasville buffet a makeover. The piece worked beautifully as a center island in our very small kitchen in Arizona. Here in Texas, I tried working this piece into the kitchen as an island once more (no room). Then it was ... View the Post
New Memories
Two of my cousins are arriving from Minnesota today! Truthfully, it couldn’t come at a better time. My deep grief over the loss of my grandmother created one huge dark cloud that hovered above me through most of January. But the anticipation of their visit has lifted much of it. It’s as if the sun is now peeking through. I think a good portion of my grief is the realization that I am now the oldest living member of my family ….on both sides. The loss of family members who knew me ... View the Post
Parisian Pom Pom Pillow
So many of the rooms in Storybook Cottage are coming together in bits and pieces. The sun room is aptly named as it is the room where our son spends most of his time. Sweet Guy was recently with me when I was returning a few things to Home Goods that didn’t work out for the living room. Near the entrance on an end cap he spied this pillow which had so many of things he loved when he visited N.Y.C. with his cousin Maddie. He asked if we could get it for the sun room as he wanted it to ... View the Post
