When we bought Storybook Cottage we knew that both of the back doors would need to be replaced as the wood had rotted in several areas. Like so many places in the country it has been a pretty cold winter in Texas. But that didn’t stop us from removing the doors one at a time. The first door, which leads from the detached garage to the family room, was done first. It was a comical adventure of errors which included things like me innocently saying “Oh… we have to turn the door around, the swing ... View the Post
Happy 80th Birthday Pop Gunn–You HAVE to see his AWESOME gift!
Oh I just love a good birthday. Eighty years is surely something to celebrate. My father in law, Landen, is just amazing. I think you now know where Mr. Décor inherited his DIY skills from. Pop is always working on some project or another. Mr. Décor, shown here in the middle, often talks about the houseboat that Pop Gunn created when he was a kid. It was called the Gunn Do La (Inspired by gondola… Do for Dorothy and La for Landen.) It was quite a boat. A true labor of love. ... View the Post
I Just Don’t Love It
When we moved from Arizona we got rid of so many things that no longer worked for our family, we had grown tired of or somehow been living with even though we never really loved them. We wanted to consider our move to Texas a fresh start on a variety of levels. We decided that we would rather live with an empty room and save for something special rather than have a room filled with average things. Somehow over the course of the past few months I forgot what we were striving for. Over ... View the Post
The Butter Bell
I think many of us start the new year out by making resolutions to eat better. I am trying to eat primarily whole foods. Plans For the Storybook Cottage Living Room
Hello dear friends! Did you enjoy the holiday season? I sent Mr. Décor back to work and Sweet Guy went back to school this morning and the house feels deliciously quiet. A few months ago my good friend Miss Marty sent me a housewarming gift of two lovely 18” x 18” squares of Schumacher's Chiang Mai Dragon fabric. (If you have priced this fabric you know this was an EXTREMLY generous gift.) While I am not normally a fan of Chinoiserie there is something about this fabric that I truly love. The ... A Truly Tiny Guest Room
Welcome to the Wintermint Guest Room at Storybook Cottage! Let’s start from the beginning. Back in October when we moved into our home this room, like the rest of the house, was yet another shade of brown. (Please, quit coveting the yellow and brown glass light shades! :) So I painted the walls a lovely shade of wintermint. Then the room became a dumping ground for everything that was not being used in other areas of the house. I think most of us are guilty of having such a space ... View the Post
