A Fun Summer Frock

It has been HOT and HUMID here in Texas! I love to simply slide on a cool cotton dress if I have to run an errand. This is truly A Fun Summer Frock featuring a floral fabric embellished with rick rack. Advance Pattern 7753 I had found the vintage Advance Pattern 7753, as well as the vintage fabric, a few months ago at an estate sale. I think I spent a whopping  ONE DOLLAR for both items. The Advance Pattern Company released sewing patterns from 1933 until 1966. The patterns were sold ... View the Post

How To Find Historic Costuming Friends

Six years ago I visited Colonial Williamsburg. While there I purchased a hat and pattern to sew an 18th-century dress. I shared the outcome at Halloween with rousing success. A Peacock Themed Regency Dress and Open Robe

This past weekend I attended the D/FW Costumers Guild Fantasy Picnic. This is a fun theme as the costume can be anything fancied in the creator's imagination. Cosplay, Fairies, Elves, and more were all welcome. I wanted to create an outfit that could also be worn in the future to other historical events and designed A Peacock Themed Regency Dress and Open Robe. Inspiration Many people automatically think that during the Regency period women only wore "sheer white dresses". That is ... View the Post

Happy Spring Dresses

Next week my eldest child, the beloved Fashionista, will celebrate a milestone birthday. As many longtime readers know I am all about heartfelt, handcrafted gifts to mark special occasions. My sweet daughter has recently started a new job in Nashville and was searching for a few dresses to wear to her fashionable workplace. She discovered that most dresses today are either poorly made or cost well beyond what her millennial pocketbook could afford. So I decided that the perfect gift for her ... View the Post
