Pretty Costumes For Fall

Hello dear friends! I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. I got the upstairs bathroom painted and Sweet Guy attended his Homecoming Dance. As promised in last week's Downton Abbey dress post I am sharing several Pretty Costumes For Fall as worn by members of the D/FW Costumers Guild. Several of the guild members recently attended the Monet at the Kimball event. The exhibit focused on the late years that the artist practiced which covered 1913 to 1926. A Downton Abbey Inspired Dress

Thank you everyone for all of your kind comments on my recent Fall Home Tour. As promised here is A Downton Abbey Inspired Dress. I have mentioned a few times that I am a member of the D/FW Costumers Guild. We attend several events a year together. An early fall outing was planned to attend Monet At The Kimball. The exhibit focused on the artists' last works from 1913 to 1926. I decided to create a dress style from the late Edwardian/early teens era. As such a dress would take a bit of time and ... A Fun Summer Frock

A Fun Summer Frock

It has been HOT and HUMID here in Texas! I love to simply slide on a cool cotton dress if I have to run an errand. This is truly A Fun Summer Frock featuring a floral fabric embellished with rick rack. Advance Pattern 7753 I had found the vintage Advance Pattern 7753, as well as the vintage fabric, a few months ago at an estate sale. I think I spent a whopping  ONE DOLLAR for both items. The Advance Pattern Company released sewing patterns from 1933 until 1966. The patterns were sold ... View the Post

How To Find Historic Costuming Friends

Six years ago I visited Colonial Williamsburg. While there I purchased a hat and pattern to sew an 18th-century dress. I shared the outcome at Halloween with rousing success. Then two years went by before I presented Becoming Jane.  I loved the research and the process of creating historical clothing. But I didn't do it year-round because what was the point?  No one close shared my interests and there was nowhere to actually wear the garments. That changed when I moved to Texas and ... A Springtime Fantasy Costume Picnic

Last Saturday the D/FW Costumers Guild held A Springtime Fantasy Costume Picnic. Suggested attire included anything fantasy or Sci-Fi. As always some extraordinary costumes were created. I thought you might enjoy seeing a few truly imaginative garments. Artwork: The Anticipated Letter by Harry George Theaker Thank you so very much for all your kind comments on yesterday post. It appears you enjoyed the Peacock Themed Regency Dress and Open Robe that I wore to the picnic. I can't wait for ... View the Post

A Peacock Themed Regency Dress and Open Robe

This past weekend I attended the D/FW Costumers Guild Fantasy Picnic. This is a fun theme as the costume can be anything fancied in the creator's imagination. Cosplay, Fairies, Elves, and more were all welcome. I wanted to create an outfit that could also be worn in the future to other historical events and designed A Peacock Themed Regency Dress and Open Robe. Inspiration Many people automatically think that during the Regency period women only wore "sheer white dresses". That is ... View the Post
