Thankful. Early weekday mornings at Storybook Cottage are filled with scrambled eggs and dirty dishes. Homework is hastily gathered from every room in the house and lost shoes are found. Globs of toothpaste gather in the sink and pajamas are strewn across the floor. Lunches are grabbed from the fridge at the last possible moment. Generally, during all of this madness, I am once again reminded that I alone possess the superpower of taking out the trash. In short, it is a chaos… and I am ... View the Post
Never Stop Learning
I hope to someday be old and wise. So I will Never Stop Learning. Never Stop Learning One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was from 92-year-old Grandma Jingles. She told me that she was proud of me for sticking with my education despite the many obstacles I had faced but that even once I earned my degree she hoped I would never stop learning. As she sat in her chair I looked at the side table stacked with the several medical journals she received each month. They had been ... View the Post
Something Better
As I have started my last year in college I have begun to examine what my future plans might be. Where do I see myself? What direction am I going? Lasting Friendships
Tomorrow I will be getting on a plane bound for California. I’ll be spending time with some of the best people I know. Many of us met in kindergarten and have enjoyed Lasting Friendships. (I’m the brunette in the white dress.) Lasting Friendships I’ll start out the week in the L.A. area hanging with my BFF of 40 years, Tracy. Regular readers have seen her on the blog many times. She works in the movie industry and sends me pictures like this one reminding me that Sodapop Curtis was my ... View the Post
Looking Beyond
Looking Beyond its summer and it’s hot. But the heat does seem to make ice cream floats taste even more delicious. There are also mosquitos. But let’s not forget about the fireflies. Some parents may be hearing endless cries of “I’m bored!” Yet they can be ended with a bucket of water bombs. Endless lists of mandatory summer reading may exist. But the right book can change everything. Life is full of opportunities to focus on the positive. It’s true that there is beauty in ... View the Post
