Earlier this week Mr. Decor announced “I’m off on Friday. Would you like to do something together?” I immediately felt heartsick. I needed to refocus. Refocus I am a planner by nature and each week my calendar features a precarious schedule so fully packed that a shifting of events is almost impossible. But I know what is important. With work, school, a child on summer vacation 24/7 and a home that has me employed as it’s a full-time gardener, maid, and chef I could see only one area ... View the Post
Nobody Special
I recently attended a design event. As I approached the venue I saw a room full of well-polished people. Nothing can make me feel more like my awkward 12-year-old self… just desperate to fit in. Nobody Special. I scanned the crowd and someone caught my eye. She was standing in the corner tightly clutching her purse. I made my way over to her. “What a crowd. Looks like a lot of important people.” I said, a bit cheekily. She responded, “Yeah, I’m not sure why I’m here. I’m nobody special.” ... View the Post
Keeping Harmony in the Home and Garden
I adore this wee gnome couple sitting in our herb garden. It reminds the Mr. and I of ourselves. Keeping Harmony in the Home and Garden. Keeping Harmony in the Home and Garden A few weeks ago we made a trip to a big box store to pick out a storm door. We agreed that the almond colored door with bronze hardware would best fit in with our existing bronze lighting, almond siding, and newly installed gutter system. Last Saturday Mr. Decor went back to the store to pick up the door. He ... View the Post
The Summer Legacy
Tomorrow I will begin the very last summer semester of my college career. It is always a bit of an extra challenge to take on two classes while having children at home on summer vacation. This post is on creating The Summer Legacy. The planning of the summer schedule has begun to rival a covert military operation. Sweet Guy will be out of school in just two short weeks. We have already begun the descent into the blurry end of school year activities. There is the round of tests we prep for ... View the Post
Baby Bird
Happy Mother’s Day to all those who love a Baby Bird. Recently, on a Saturday, I had such a good mom moment. I had been at work with design clients all day. I pulled onto our street shortly before 6 pm tired and hungry. I spied my son sitting on our neighbor's curb by himself and thought “What in the world?” His raised his hands to his lips as I rolled my window down and just above a whisper he said “I’m so glad your home! I’ve been sitting here for 45 minutes waiting for you to come home or ... View the Post
The Last Pick
I have first-hand knowledge of being picked last in gym class. I was as uncoordinated as plaid and stripes. Because of that, I can tell you that those red rubber balls really pack a punch. Even worse, there were plenty of times I wasn’t even picked at all. The Homecoming hoedown, the Christmas formal… I could go on and on and tell you that on most occasions there are NO perks of being a wallflower. I was always The Last Pick. The Last Pick This Laura Ingalls not only sported buckteeth but ... View the Post
