Recently a group of my costuming friends and I went to the Arlington Museum of Art to view the Disney Heroes & Villians Costume Collection.
As the organizer of the outing I encouraged my friends to cosplay their favorite characters. Of the 16 people in our group 6 other people dressed up.

Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother Costume
After digging around in my fabric collection and scrap bin I determined that I had most of the elements to create a cosplay version of Cinderella’s Fairy godmother.
With four yards of a lovely wool gabardine I decided to sew a matching skirt and cape. My favorite skirt pattern is Simplicity 8462, view B. It has the perfect amount of coverage and swish!
Needing something to wear underneath the cape, the blouse from the same pattern was also sewn. I used the bodice and long sleeve pattern pieces. Alterations to the blouse included adding a ruffled collar and gathered cuffs. The fabric is a lovely cotton print that I purchased from the Liberty store in London when I went to England. It had the perfect shades of lavender, pink and blue to match the cape.
An Awful Pattern McCall’s M8335
I rarely write anything negative. But the McCall’s M8335 cape pattern is just not good. I selected the capelet and hood pieces from view D. While the hood is fine, the capelet was so boxy it fit like I had the super gigantic shoulders. Given this is a gender neutral pattern I had the men in my family also try it on. It was still an awful fit. I hacked and cut and cut and hacked until I created completely new pattern pieces. Even so, I am not completely satisfied with the fit of the cape. At some point I will probably take it apart and redo it.
I could find no positive reviews for this pattern online and it is understandable. My advice is to select another cloak pattern. 
Still, the blue wool, gorgeous lavender and pink silk combination is just stunning. The wool was found at an estate sale and the silk came from The Mad Anachronist.
I paired it with my vintage inspired Julia Bo shoes and a beaded handbag purchased from my dear friend Rita.
The live action Fairy Godmother and Cinderella were portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter and Lily James.
Disney Heroes & Villians Costume Collection
Upon entering the exhibit I spied the live action Jasmine costume worn by Naomi Scott. Aladdin was a favorite of Sweet Guy when he was Sweet Boy.
The Fashionista’s favorite princess has always been Mulan.
It did not disappoint!
It was such fun to see the live action Belle costumes.

The colors and textures were just mezmerizing!
In the second grade the Fashionista dressed up as Cruella de Vil so of course I had to capture this gem.

The embroidery on the bodice was just incredible and the cobweb sleeves!
