Summer’s Last Sigh Vintage Style Beachwear

Happy Fashion Friday friends! Mr. Decor recently took me out for a boat ride on my birthday. Now I don’t know about you but I pretty much hate the hot polyester swimsuits that are offered today. So I decided to make my own. I hope you enjoy Summer’s Last Sigh Vintage Style Beachwear.

Some of you may remember the Barbie inspired swimsuit that I made at the start of summer.

I have really loved that swimsuit. The cotton is so cool and dries quickly. It stays in place and doesn’t ride up.

Dressing Like Barbie Malibu Edition

In that same post I shared a coverup that I had made for the Fashionista using Simplicity 5628.

But this time I had the idea to just use an extra large beach towel instead of fabric.

This is the perfect beginner project! It sews up in less than an hour.

1940s Style Swimsuit

Since I live in a hot climate and often go out on the lake with Mr. Decor I wanted a second suit to wear. This time I looked to the 1940s and it’s fun beachwear.

Simplicity S8932

I found Simplicity S8932 on sale at Joann for $1.99. The fabric came from an estate sale for $3. Sweet Guy said it reminded him of Sponge Bob Square Pants. So I went with it.

The coverup and wrap skirt are perfect beginner projects. The shorts and top require more of an intermediate skill level.

Am I too old to wear a two piece? Perhaps. But this style actually covers more than most modern one pieces.

Plus I’m at a wonderful age where I don’t care. There are only a few people who opinions actually matter to me. Mr. Decor LOVES the suit.

Does the suit hold up in the water? Yes, beautifully. Does it look horrible when it’s wet? I don’t think so. It’s similar to this image.

A Birthday Crown

Continuing with the Sponge Bob theme I bought a faux pineapple and some flowers to make a fascinator styled hat.

I think we all know who inspired my headwear.

I have LOVED Carmen Miranda since I was a small girl.

It was a grand day out!

You will hate to have summer end with all your fun beach wear. You always seem to be really enjoying when you create an outfit. It isn’t just because it is there. You create it with a purpose and each step is well thought out.
    Have fun! 🙂
