Hello sweet friends! ! Welcome to the April edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by the fabulous Cindy of County Road 407. If you are coming over from let me say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”. Marty from A Stroll Thru Life created such a lovely basket. Today’s post here on DTA features A Bit Of Front Door Fun.
The Inspiration
This month the challenge was to create a charming spring basket. Our lovely inspiration photo comes from Sanctuary Home Decor.
The image features:
- A long wicker basket hanging on a door.
- Lovely spring blooms.
I had actually done a very similar look recently when I was creating my Jane Austen inspired garden.
All of the fresh flowers came from my garden.
A similar look was also arranged last fall.
I enjoy adding in wildlife. It makes me smile.
Inspiration
So, I wanted to do something a bit different for this challenge. It was perfect timing as my front entry was desperately in need of a post winter refresh.
I began by clearing away all of the previous décor and gave the door, as well as the porch, a good spring cleaning.
It was now time to decorate!
It’s always such fun how inspiration strikes.
Some of you may remember my niece Birdie. She’s been mentioned on DTA numerous times. Most recently when she came out for a birdwatching trip.
I am very proud to announce that she has recently been accepted into the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.
I went over to Michaels with the intention to grab some ribbon for my door display. Right at the front of the store they were showcasing their summer themed décor. I was captivated by their faux tropical florals and birds.
I knew that Mr. Decor, who grew up in Panama, would also love this happy and bright theme.

A Bit Of Front Door Fun
Since the front door at Storybook Cottage is an oval shape I began with an oval grapevine wreath.
I reused some older floral berries as a base and added the ribbon.
Then I started layering in the tropical elements.
The pots were refreshed with some tropical flowers. This one hour transformation created a truly cheerful entry.
That is the beauty of the Pinterest Challenge. It simply serves as inspiration to create something new!
Up next is Peacock Ridge Farm. You will love Renae’s inviting entry!
