On her recent visit, my niece Birdie was on the hunt to find a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. After doing a bit of research on where they are most often spotted we headed to go Birding At Fort Worth Nature Center.
Birding At Fort Worth Nature Center
We arrived right as the park opened at 7 am and set out on the Prairie Trail.
Although the parking lot had been empty we were not alone.
The birding was amazing.
Even in the hot July summer, there were still plenty of flowers to see.
The wild grapes were so abundant.
We then headed over to the Marsh Boardwalk.
A true picture postcard.
It was so quiet and peaceful.
I could have watched the small green heron (in the center) walk about for hours.
Later in the day, as we walked along the shoreline we saw a happy fisherman.
As well as joyful paddlers.
While snakes and alligators are occasionally seen none crossed our path. But we did spy a painted bunting or two.
May your heart take flight today.

Oh how exciting- I have never actually seen a painted bunting in person. I’m so jealous!
Scissor tailed flycatchers are actually very common in Texas. It’s pretty easy to spot them if you go out to prairie type areas. They love to sit on fences and watch. We see them all the time around here.
You always find the most interesting things to do.
Beautiful pictures, Laura. I especially love the vibrant colors of the birds, butterflies, and bug.
Beautiful place for a slow stroll with a camera. Your photos are great.
Sounds like a beautiful day!
My kind of place, Laura! 🙂 Lovely photos.
Lovely!
That bird on the top of the post is the most beautiful bird I’ve ever seen. Absolute winged elegance . What a joy.
The bird photos you took would make beautiful notecards! How nice to get out there early and see so much. I miss hiking…it’s been too hot lately. Enjoy your afternoon!
Oh my! Look at the tail on that glorious bird! What a wonderful day you shared and what a terrific environment. Four star in every way. You’re a wonderful aunt!
