Hello sweet friends! Today I am participating in the Sunflowers In Bloom blog hop hosted by Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home. If you are visiting from The Ponds Farmhouse may I say “Welcome!” Wasn’t Rachel’s sunflower decor gorgeous? Today, I am sharing a Late Summer Kitchen With Sunflowers.
Late Summer Kitchen With Sunflowers
Here at Storybook Cottage we are not quite ready for fall decor. It is still very much summer and we are trying to keep cool in this extreme heat. But I was ready to change out my early summer decor and thought that shades of turquoise paired with happy yellow sunflowers would be just the thing!
Whirlwind Window Treatment
The first thing I did was rummage around in my scrap bin as I wanted to change out the striped roll up shade that has now been up for several months.
In the bin was a torn table topper in turquoise. Whew, say that fast five times!
I simply just separated the topper into two pieces by continuing a straight line from the tear.
The raw edges were hemmed with a bit of cotton bias binding. The newly sewn edge of the curtain was placed against the wall of the window so you can’t really see it.
Another strip of bias was sewn at the top of the curtain, on the back, to create a channel for the rod to slip through.
This allows the pretty scalloped edges to be a focal point.
Table Decor
Next, I turned my attention to decorating the table.
I didn’t buy anything new. I just collected items that I thought would work with the theme.
Turquoise mason jars are my favorite.
They really make the yellow sunflowers pop!
A Quick and Easy Craft
Wanting to add another sunflower element to the table I decided to make some quick and easy napkin rings.
You Will Need:
- Mini grapevine rings (They can be found at dollar or craft stores.)
- Assorted blooms/leaves (I pulled some vintage ones off of an old smooshed hat.)
- Hot glue gun or craft glue.
Begin by adding a leaf, followed by the larger blooms. Snip off the stem so that a flat back can be attached. This helps the flower to sit a bit more nicely on the ring. Add smaller blooms to fill in any bare spots.
All four napkin rings took me less that five minutes to make!
By using hot glue I can just peel the flowers off when I am ready to make something new.
The Kitchen Shelf
The kitchen shelf got a makeover as well.
I love using vintage aprons from my collection.
The antique farm painting features touches of an azure sky.
The Hearth
Bits of of turquoise and sunflowers can be found in the hearth area as well.
I am still loving all of our appliances. The oven and stovetop cook beautifully.
After almost a year of kitchen renovations the built in range hood finally arrived! I love that it is so low profile that you can barely see it!
It is by Hauslane and the model is IN-R100.
I hope you have enjoyed our Late Summer Kitchen With Sunflowers.
Our sweet cream longhaired dachshund puppy, Ponyboy, is now 10 months old. We call Pony the big blond dog, because like Clifford, he continues to grow and GROW. He was supposed to be a miniature doxie. However, he is over achieving to a much greater standard size. I love fun surprises in life!
Up next is Let’s Add Sprinkles. You will love how Katie decorates with thrifted finds.
I’ll see you on Sunday,
Laura

Your summery kitchen with the sunflowers and pretty turquoise is lovely! You didn’t take the theme too far but kept is light and gentle keep the kitchen light and cool to deal with the late summer heat. The lacy curtain over your sink is perfect! I love how it will give you a view out side while you are standing at the sink now. That is a big plus in my world to be able to stare out and day dream while doing sink chores. lol Was the pretty table cloth one of your past projects of dyeing fabric. It looks familiar.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful decorating ideas! 🙂

Laura, like you I am not ready to transition to fall because it still feels too much like summer. Your blue/teal accents with sunflowers is a lovley combination. I love the little napkin rings and the beautiful arrangements in each mason jar. The turquoise table cloth curtains are so pretty too.
I love that old painting the most, and your little fur baby is the sweetest.
I could use your tongue twister as a new choir warm-up next week with my students, haha;
Thanks so much for joining the hop!

Laura, no one does turquoise like you; it works for every season!! And it’s a perfect companion to sunflowers! Love the napkin rings and those adorable check napkins. That vintage old world painting really caught my attention, I have one very similar with the same frame. So pretty. Your a whiz with that fabric for curtains, too. Your big blonde pupster is the cutest. He’s one loooong boy! Happy rest of Summer!
