This website began on March 4, 2008. Over the years many things have changed both personally and professionally. At the time Sweet Guy was in kindergarten. He is now set to graduate this spring. Back then the Fashionista was a high school senior. She is now a fully-fledged adult living in Nashville. We’ve lived in three different homes. Many wonderful and long term friendships have been formed through this website. I am thankful for all of it! As we set out to embark on a new decade I thought that rather than writing the standard end of year post I would list Decor To Adore’s Most Popular Posts of the Decade.
Decor To Adore’s Most Popular Posts of the Decade
I was able to find out my top posts via my Google Analytics account. The research was very informative. It tells me what direction I should take in creating fresh content in the new year. So without further ado let’s take a look back at the 10 most popular posts of the past ten years here at DTA.
Number 10: The Homes of Laura Ingalls Wilder
I really did not start writing about Laura Ingalls Wilder until eight years after I began this blog, in 2016. But what I now know is that people from all over the world truly love Laura. You can find all of my Little House themed posts HERE.
Number 9: Dyeing Ikea Slipcovers
In 2015 I wanted Robin’s Egg Blue slipcovers for my Ikea Ektorp sofa and chair. Not finding what I wanted (Bemz wasn’t really a thing in the states yet.) I decided to make my own. Necessity truly is the mother of all invention.
Number 8: How To Remove Ugly Bathroom Lighting
This was part of a series of improvements done on a budget while living in our second home in Arizona.
Number 7: Create A Cozy Kitchen
One thing I learned in researching and writing this post is to truly consider if the content is evergreen. This means writing posts where the content remains relevant. It’s not time-sensitive. I think many people love cozy, traditional kitchens.
Number 6: Plantation Homes
A perfect example of evergreen content. People love to travel. This post covered a gorgeous destination way back in 2010. It’s still gaining daily views.
The Top Five Posts
Number 5: Create A Regency Era Bonnet
I was not surprised that this is an all-time favorite post. It also does quite well on Pinterest.
Number 4: Create A Dickens Christmas
Again an evergreen post featuring a traditional topic loved by many.
Number 3: Linen Pillow Shams Made From Scraps
I remember being hesitant to share my sewing adventures. But readers do seem to enjoy them!
Number Two: Vintage Pillow Case Apron Tutorial
This gem is from way back in 2011. It proves that cute and classic fashion never goes out of style.
Drumroll Please!
Number One: Create Your Own Tiered Tray
This post shares a wide variety of images on creating a vignette favorite, the tiered tray. I would still like to create this gem for my new crafting space.
The Breakdown
It was interesting to learn what Decor To Adore Readers have loved over the past 10 years. I have been a lifestyle website long before the term was even coined. Favorite reader posts included:
- Two decor themed posts.
- Two home improvement tutorial posts.
- Two sewing posts.
- Two crafting posts.
- 1 Laura Ingalls Wilder themed post.
- 1 travel post.
The Top Ten of 2019
A quick check of the top posts just in 2019.
- Number 10: Little House Birthday Party
- At 9: White Christmas Judy Haynes Engagement Outfit
- Number 8: Saturday Smiles That’s A Wrap
- At 7: A White Christmas Themed Home Tour
- Number 6: Cozy Winter Decor
- At 5: A Peacock Themed Regency Dress and Open Robe
- Number 4: Saturday Smiles Love
- At 3: Saturday Smiles We Need A Little Christmas
- Number 2: A White Christmas Cast Party.
- At 1: Sharing my new craft space.
The takeaway on what topics and themes DTA readers like:
- My most recent post, which was a video of my crafting space, has blown the boots off of everything else. This sort of SHOCKS me. It was done on a whim and the video quality is not great. It’s a good thing I signed up for a video editing class this next semester at community college.
- Three White Christmas posts. DTA readers love a good, nostalgic theme in all forms~ costuming, decor, and entertaining!
- Three Saturday Smiles posts. I love sharing what others create and will continue to do so.
- Two costuming/sewing posts. I promise there is more in store.
- One Little House post.
Following the guidelines of this information, I plan to bring more of what you love in 2020.
I’ll be back on Friday, January 3rd.
Happy New Year!
Laura

Great insight when looking at the decade and the ‘evergreen’ content! Hard to believe your kids have grown up virtually before our eyes! Happy New Year, Laura and family.

This is really fun. I enjoy parsing down the stats and seeing what people like. I remember an awful lot of these, to be sure! And a few that might be before I found you so I’m going to look back to those. Has your ektorp sofa held up well? I’m toying with that one.
On an unrelated note (well, sort of) since your Judy Haines post I cannot watch White Christmas and that scene without thinking of you. When she waltzes into the lodge in that cute outfit and sitting with Phil by the fire, I’m thinking “that’s Laura!” I’ve watched it twice this season and maybe tonight too. Just because I can!
Happy New Year, my friend. I know your Christmas was merry and bright and may your new year be divinely happy.

Thank you for sharing your ideas. I love the idea of Vintage pillow case, I am pro at doing handmade embroidery, I can make patterns on the pillow cases and cushions though. This time I want to try out different ideas, well you are sharing so much creative stuff and I love your posts. I am sure you are so creative yourself (from what I have sensed reading a couple of your posts). Keep posting for us. thank you
