Sharing My New Sewing and Crafting Space

Hello sweet friends! I hope your holiday season at home is joyful. Sweet Guy has been asking to move upstairs. We took the opportunity of school being out for Christmas vacation to move him on up (to the east side…LOL). It took a couple of days as I also had to bring my former sewing space contents downstairs. I made a quick video Sharing My New Sewing and Crafting Space. I hope you enjoy it!

You’ll have to watch to see why I am laughing.

I did announce at the end of the video that I am giving away two generous cuts of holiday fabric. To enter you will need to leave a comment on the Youtube site itself HERE .

Gracie is loving the new space.

I love the cards that you wrapped your laces around. Did you buy them pre-made Or did you make them yourself? I also loved the vintage christmas fabric that you are doing the drawing for. I can already think of a few things it could be used for

I loved touring your new sewing room. I’m a sewist also. the dress you’re wearing is lovely and I wondered if you had made it? I’m pretty sure I had that Christmas print cotton from my mother-in-law’s stash and covered a photo album in it back in the early 80s for our daughter’s high school graduation. Do you have a way of washing the vintage fabrics that removes the perfume smells of laundry detergent?

How fun to have your own dedicated room! I will look forward to watching the video and know it will be wonderful (but since ‘I’m not a seamstress, won’t enter — someone else needs to win those wonderful fabric pieces!).

A perfect way to begin your new year!

I have to admit, I don’t usually watch more than 2-3 minutes of videos. But I watched almost all of this one, til my husband came home and I couldn’t hear it any more. 🙂 I enjoyed seeing your craft/sewing room! I love that you get so much fabric from thrift stores. That encourages me, too, that the fabric and patterns I’ve donated to thrift stores hopefully did find a good home. I do my laces and trims the same way: wrapped around cards made of foam board. I think cardboard would be stronger, though. I love the idea of using old wooden spools. I have not found a better way to store patterns, unfortunately.

There is a book titled Where Women Create that shows some really nice craft rooms. Perhaps your library has it or could get it. There was also a magazine by that name that I used to drool over. It’s no longer in print, but back issues are available. You might find some old issues at some of those thrift stores or estate sales or ebay. I can’t remember if it was all sewing rooms or also art and some other crafts.

I’ve been collecting craft and sewing organization tips on a Pinterest board here: https://www.pinterest.com/barbarah06/craft-sewing-organization/. I need to look through them again and remind myself of them.

I needed to give up my sewing space to a Grand daughter’s bed room. A sacrifice I gladly made. I’ll have my space back sooner or later, and your space has many good ideas that I hope to copy. Enjoy the space!

Laura, I am a long-time reader but have never commented before. I enjoy your blog because it is truly original. You have your own classic style. I love how you are able to do so much while being budget conscious, because that it the way most of your readers have to approach decorating. And I love your emphasis on your marriage and children. Thank you for the hours of inspiring reading you’ve provided these many years. Merry Christmas!

Loved seeing your “new” sewing room. Everyone who sews should have a dedicated space where the door can be closed. It’s just a necessity. Not having to put everything away during the process is part of the pleasure and joy of creating from scratch.
I laughed also when your dog reacted to the FedEx truck. I have two dogs who absolutely HATE the UPS delivery truck. I swear they can hear it coming from down the street and will bark out the window until I intervene, long after it’s gone.
Your son obviously is so patient with you and your requests of him. I hope that never changes.
    Have a wonderful New Year.

    Laura,
I, too, love your video. It is so nice to hear your voice after all these years of following you. The only thing that comes to me off the top of my head for pattern storage would be to use 9 x 12 kraft envelopes and iron the patterns as you fold them to fit inside. You are so smart that you probably already thought of that. If this is your first video, you are a natural! You are constantly growing and are such an inspiration to all.
