My friend Tracy recently came for a visit and brought me a large bag of beautiful Meyer lemons from her backyard. They are so good I didn’t want to waste one single bit. Tracy grows her lemons organically so they only needed a quick wash in a water/vinegar bath. Once dry I used a zester to created thin strips of lemon peel. Then I made 1 tablespoon piles on a plate and popped them in the freezer. Once frozen I placed them in a freezer bag where they will stay fresh for months and I can ... View the Post
Creating A Hydroponic Garden
Have you heard about hydroponic gardens? My brother, R.C. has had one in his backyard since last fall. As Sweet Boy was working on the “Gardening” merit badge in Boy Scouts we have been closely monitoring the gardens progress. It is a fantastic project to create. You can grow any type of fruit or vegetable in a hydroponic garden that you can in a regular garden. Hydroponic gardens have been around since the 17th century. My brother recommends the book “Aquaponic Gardening” by Sylvia ... View the Post
Joseph’s Lilies
Do you have favorite characters from the bible? I do. One of them is Joseph. Mary’s Joseph. Jesus’ earthly father. Joseph’s Lilies. In a time when an unplanned pregnancy was enough to bring shame to an entire family, he stood by Mary’s side. Even though he knew with certainty he had not fathered the child. In the harrowing days after Mary had delivered her son he alone was responsible for carrying a postpartum mother and the Light of the World to safety. Joseph, a Jewish carpenter, raised ... The Guest Bath Gets A Wee Little Basket
A few weeks ago I shared a small portion Sweet Guy’s bathroom that also doubles as our guest bath. I recently added one small touch. The bathroom is a rather small space that doesn’t have any windows or architectural charm. I had hung a nice seaside oil painting for the wall area next to the sink but felt like there was still a large expanse of empty space below. I found an basket at Homegoods that had a rustic/industrial feel that I thought might work perfectly. At the same time I ... View the Post
Creating New Bedding from Old Options
A big thank you to all who left such kind comments and emails regarding our new look for an antique bed. Here is Sweet Guy’s new bedding. Most of it came from our linen closet. When talking about what look he wanted for his room he chose this image. I asked him what elements he liked about the space and it was the color gray, the street signs, painted “Beatles” wall and the exposed brick. I told him that since we were moving the wall elements might have to wait until we were settled ... View the Post
A New Look For An Antique Bed
This project has been in the works for awhile. You might recall that back in January I shared Sweet Guy’s travel themed bedroom. I mentioned that he had outgrown the bed with the lovely antique pine headboard and needed something bigger. About the same time the Fashionista returned home as we put the condo that she was living in on the market. So we had no room for the guest room bed I had found a few years ago on Craiglist. It was a lovely frame that had come with a really bad white ... View the Post
