Installing French Drains and Other Things

While April showers do bring May Flowers…. We have also found out why there was so much water damage to the back of the house causing Mr. Décor to replace all of the back siding last January. Both the Mr. and I have been toiling in the backyard this past week. We have been logging hours upon hours of backbreaking labor to try and create what resembles a landscaped yard/garden. It was only when it rained buckets that we discovered …“Fort Worth, we have a problem.” So, there are two ... View the Post

10 Minutes A Day

Yesterday Mr. Décor and I celebrated 17 years of wedded bliss! On Friday evening he took me to a lovely B & B. As we were at dinner we talked about that while on one hand it feels like we have been together “forever” there are other times we can’t believe how quickly time has passed. Now it’s no secret that I was 28 year old divorcée with a 7 year old daughter when I met a certain 33 year old bachelor. I was cautious because I had already traveled down a devastating and heartbroken path. ... View the Post

When You Like What You Like Happy Accidents

Last week I revealed our new front door. It is truly a case of When You Like What You Like Happy Accidents. When You Like What You Like Happy Accidents In the comments I heard over and over that our door didn’t look like the door I had found on Pinterest that said it was painted in “Kind Green”. I agree. When I went to the actual store to pick up the paint sample I was shocked by just HOW MUCH the sample didn’t look like the picture. I true case of you can’t believe everything you ... View the Post

This Living Room Is Going To Get Done!!!

It’s hard to believe but somehow six months have come and gone and it is time once again for the spring edition of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda at “Calling It Home”. This time I will be working on finishing the entryway and living room at Storybook Cottage. It truly is a bit of a challenge to try and complete a room design in just six short weeks. Particularly when you have just moved into a 30 year old that needs A LOT of work! But we’ve been so pleased with how our first ... View the Post

When You Have Design ADD – Half Finished Projects on Parade

My house is FULL of half finished projects. I wish I could just finish ONE room. There is pressure, both personal and professional, to just be done already. Because really, in blogland, if there is a choice between seeing a “work in progress” versus a glorious “AFTER” most people would choose the “AFTER”. A lot of real life has been occurring in our home. Some of which I have shared here and some of which I have kept private. So, there are days when I say to myself “Just breathe. Do the ... How To Gently Clean Gilded Furniture and Accessories

Gilding has recently enjoyed a recurrence in popularity. You can find gilded agate in the form of bookends and coasters… As well as gilded mirrors, picture frames, tables and bookcases. Of course over time these pieces can get quite dusty. I cringed while researching this post as several sites recommended cleaning with a scrubbable cloth, moistened with water and then wiped across the surface to remove the dust. This is a mistake as you are sure to remove some the gilding. It will ... View the Post
