It is 10:30 on Tuesday night as I write this post. I should be sleeping as I have been working 12-14 hours a day on the house while trying to recover from strep throat. I think the cleaning portion of the program will be finished tomorrow and I am feeling a wee bit better. Hurray for small victories! If you are following our slow progress on Instagram you know I have been pondering just how I was going to paint our very tall stairwell. Mr. Decor and I finally threw in the DIY towel and I have ... Thirteen
It’s official. Today I am once again the mother of a teenager. It seems like just yesterday that a 5 pound baby was placed in my arms. (2 week old Sweet Boy with an enamored Ann Curry.) As a rule he doesn’t like photos. It’s “One and done.” Begging him for “just one more” he shows his funny side by giving me “the model pose”. The move has been hard on him. He’s been eating lunch alone at school every day. As his mom this breaks my heart. You remember middle school don’t you? ... View the Post
Making Sense in a Downsized Space
Have you recently downsized and are struggling to make your new living arrangements work? Two of my all time favorite clients, Ron and Suzi, were so saddened to hear Mr. Décor and I were moving. Over the course of 8 years I had decorated two of their homes with Mr. Décor as my wonderful handyman. Last year they moved into a wonderful senior living complex. We worked together to downsize from their 3000 square foot home to a 1500 square foot apartment and their place turned out beautifully. Suzi ... View the Post
Creating a Nautical Look on a Budget
I recently had a client with an empty room and a minimal budget. The carpeting was in excellent condition and the paint color was a nice neutral. I did suggest that the dated window covering come down. When the clients budget allows, simple panels will shine until then a clean look is fine. Media cabinets can be pretty expensive. My solution was to take an IKEA “Kallax” bookcase and turn it on its side. The television can sit right on top and baskets can later be added to control ... View the Post
The Miraculous Staircase
If all is going well the Fashionista and I (plus Rudi and Franz the doxies) are driving through the great state of Texas by now. We hope to reach Fort Worth by sundown tonight. When I began planning our travel route I remembered that I had never written about the gorgeous church we had visited while in Santa Fe two years ago. Today I was ready to share this miracle. The Loretta Chapel is a former Roman Catholic church and now a museum and wedding chapel. In 1827 the archbishop of Santa Fe, ... View the Post
A Texodus Party and a Festive Party Favor
As you read this the Fashionista and I are probably driving across New Mexico with two travel loving dachshunds in the backseat :) Mr. Décor and Sweet Guy went ahead of us in a separate car. Recently, my marvelous friend Marty arranged a going away luncheon for us that was truly magical. She also made me a darling photo album of all of our precious times together AND brought me the pretty white statement necklace I am wearing in all the shots. Many of my dear friends came to wish us ... View the Post
