Finding Christmas

It was difficult Finding Christmas this year. I didn’t put up one scarecrow at Halloween. My pair of well-worn pilgrims were not anywhere in our home at Thanksgiving. This is unusual for me. Friends and family members alike commented on the lack of my, generally abundant, holiday décor… and now, December beckons. With it the fear of a lack of Finding Christmas. As a rule, my gifts are bought and our Christmas cards are sent before the first week has passed. But this year felt different.  My ... View the Post

A Beautiful Brunch With Napkin Tutorial

We recently had some houseguests over the Labor Day holiday. I’ll let you in on a little secret. I am not at my best in the wee hours of the morning. But an easy tip is to set the table ahead of time. Here is A Beautiful Brunch With Napkin Tutorial. To fake chipper cheerfulness, I lay out and prepare as much as I can the night before. I LOVE donuts. Don’t you? See the cake plate the donuts are on? It used to be blue and was rarely used. With a bit of gold and then silver Rub and ... View the Post

Creating a Cute Apron with Leftover Fabric

I regularly wear aprons to protect my clothes while cooking and baking. Creating a Cute Apron with Leftover Fabric. Creating a Cute Apron with Leftover Fabric After the two wing chairs that were found at the side of the road were slipcovered in antique ticking I found that I still had tons of fabric left. To kick it off, my wingchairs are finally ready for their close up. It only took eight months. Wingchairs Slipcovered in Ticking. Wingchairs Slipcovered in Ticking But I am getting ahead of myself. Remember back in December when I found these “side of the road sale” beauties? What I loved: the scale of these ... View the Post

Sundressed & Given The Slip Tutorial

It’s 113 degrees today. But it’s a DRY heat. Yeah, so much so that my skin could be mistaken for a lizard's. In the summer I live in sundresses. It’s always the same formula. My uniform consists of a cotton dress, cute sandals and fun baubles varied only by color. I am old school. I like coverage. If my summer dresses are sleeveless they always have wide straps so that my dedicates don’t show. Sundressed & Given The Slip Tutorial. I also like to wear a slip underneath my dresses and ... Anthropologie Inspired Americana

I am not typically a decorator for Independence day but I recently made an Anthropologie inspired tablecloth that fit the bill nicely. Anthropologie Inspired Americana. Anthropologie Inspired Americana It consisted of an old tablecloth I already had and a bag of fabric scraps. The fabric scraps were leftover bits of bliss from the 1940s and 50’s that I had received from my grandmother and couldn’t bear to throw away. The tablecloth was a pretty cotton damask that had been purchased ... View the Post
