A Fun Summer Frock

A Fun Summer Frock

It has been HOT and HUMID here in Texas! I love to simply slide on a cool cotton dress if I have to run an errand. This is truly A Fun Summer Frock featuring a floral fabric embellished with rick rack. Advance Pattern 7753 I had found the vintage Advance Pattern 7753, as well as the vintage fabric, a few months ago at an estate sale. I think I spent a whopping  ONE DOLLAR for both items. The Advance Pattern Company released sewing patterns from 1933 until 1966. The patterns were sold ... View the Post

Vintage Inspired Travel Organizer

I'll soon be traveling to California to attend Costume College AKA Historical Sewing Nerd Classes. Many of the classes have a supply list so I will need a portable sewing kit. But this Vintage Inspired Travel Organizer could also store jewelry, makeup and much more. Vintage Inspired Travel Organizer Now I already have a BEAUTIFUL sewing kit given to me a few years ago by the perfect present picker, cousin Sweet T. It is French and an antique. Two of my favorite things. What sends it over ... View the Post

A Peacock Themed Regency Dress and Open Robe

This past weekend I attended the D/FW Costumers Guild Fantasy Picnic. This is a fun theme as the costume can be anything fancied in the creator's imagination. Cosplay, Fairies, Elves, and more were all welcome. I wanted to create an outfit that could also be worn in the future to other historical events and designed A Peacock Themed Regency Dress and Open Robe. Inspiration Many people automatically think that during the Regency period women only wore "sheer white dresses". That is ... View the Post

My Beautiful Notre Dame

My Beautiful Notre Dame. Over the years I have written about this glorious cathedral many, many times. I first had the joy of seeing its medieval glory firsthand in 2000. Every time I return to Paris I always at least walk past its magnificent facade in the Ile de la Cite. My Beautiful Notre Dame By now you have probably heard that the entire roof was totally engulfed in flames and completely collapsed. The beautiful 12th-century spire of the cathedral had fallen. The fire had also spread ... View the Post

Romantic Valentine Dress From The Thrift Store

Today is Ten on the 10th. Where a project is created for under $10 on the tenth of the month. For February I created a Romantic Valentine Dress From The Thrift Store. Romantic Valentine Dress From The Thrift Store This month's Ten on the 10th theme is "Thrift Store". I have been trying to incorporate more dresses into my wardrobe. But it is getting harder and harder to find pretty dresses in natural fabrics. There is a wonderful church-run thrift store fairly close by my home that ... View the Post

A Dickens Cloak and Bonnet for Under $20

Thank you for all of your lovely comments on my Dickens Christmas Home Tour. Today I have more Dickensian delights with how to create A Dickens Cloak and Bonnet for Under $20. Create A Dickens Cloak and Bonnet for Under $20 Mr. Decor and I had plans to attend last weekends  Dickens on the Strand festival in Galveston. A few months were spent at the sewing machine creating our various costumes. It is sad to report but I was involved in a car accident and we were unable to attend. I am very ... View the Post
