A Fun Retro Kitchen Print Dress
Back in August Mr. Decor and I traveled to Niagara Falls to celebrate our 25th anniversary as well as my birthday. My friend Mandi, who lives in Ontario, arranged a meet up of some very special vintage loving friends.
This special occasion called for a new dress!
If you have been following me for any length of time you may be aware that 90% of my sewing projects are created from thrift store/estate sale fabrics and notions.
But back in early August I had gone to Hobby Lobby for some craft paint and stopped in my tracks when a bolt of fabric that caught my eye. Thankfully, it was on sale for 50% off. I bought 4 yards.
Simplicity 3003
I then began searching through my collection of patterns for a 1950s dress, that would take 4 yards or less, and featured a Princess seam design. This design element would show off the fabric in a straight line all down the front of the dress.

I love that the pattern appears to have been previously owned by Vernon Waffles. 🙂
Everything Old Is New Again
I would classify this 1950s dress pattern sewing level as intermediate.
I was familiar with the special waist pleats as it was the same historical technique that was used on the back of my 1890s dressing gown.
But it would be tricky for a beginning sewist.
Both dresses feature a front Princess seam design.
What Ya Got Cookin’
The dress debuted at an Italian bistro in Canada. However, I was so excited to see my friends that only a few photos of the garment were taken.
Last week I went into the city to meet the Fashionista and decided to dress up for the occasion. The Fashionista graciously took a few photos.
I’m wearing one petticoat underneath but I think I could have used two.
My t-strap shoes are from Mosshe. The matching green handbag was an estate sale find.
The hat belonged to my great grandmother, Emma. She would be appalled that I’m not wearing gloves.
It’s a very comfortable dress to wear.
I’ll say goodbye for now. But I will be back on Sunday.

So reminiscent, that shape, and the bows at the top of the pleats! The graphics are great, those posed toes! I love this whole thing. You could make a little hostess apron if you have any leftovers, too.
