Hello dear friends! Today I am being joined by 11 other creatives who are sharing their talents in the Falling For Porches blog hop. If you are coming over from Follow The Yellow Brick Home let me say “Welcome!” Weren’t Amber’s front porch urns just gorgeous? Today I am sharing Creative And Free Fall Porch Decor.
Creative And Free Fall Porch Decor
Last fall I was lucky enough to travel to England and was truly inspired by all the fabulous autumnal decor found at many London shops.
I wanted to do something similar and asked Mr. Decor to rig up a wooden base to surrounded the front door. He used old fencing found in our wood pile.
Throw It All On
I’ve been creating fall decor here on DTA since 2008. For about the past three years I have been carefully weeding out the worn fall flowers, leaves, and gourds that could no longer be used inside. They got tossed in a few bins that I kept meaning to take to the thrift store. In this case, procrastination won.
I began by sorting and making piles of similar objects.
I used a staple gun to apply old strips of burlap and some orange ribbon to the wooden base.
There was no set pattern. Waves and loops were created entirely in a free fashion.
Then I simply stapled leaves and flowers on top of the ribbon. I did take care to try and hide the staples.
Lastly, I applied small faux pumpkins and gourds with a heavy duty glue gun. We’ve had several 100+ degree days since then and they have all stayed securely in place.
First Display
Because of the high temperatures at first I was not able to locate any large pumpkins or fall flowers to finish the vignette.
So I created a small display on a wooden bench.
Second Display
Then I finally found some mums at the grocery store of all places! The color gives a hint to the Mulberry Falliday hued interiors.
New Video
You can see all of the autumnal displays at Storybook Cottage in this short video.
