Hello friends, today is truly a dream come true. For the past two years I have been working on a line of Little House on the Prairie® Learn To Sew patterns and step by step sewing tutorial videos.
Over the years I have met so many wonderful people at various Little House and Laura Ingalls Wilder events. Many people, of all ages, asked if I could teach them how to sew. This series of patterns, instructional booklets and step by step YouTube video tutorials is designed to do just that! The Learn To Sew series is geared for ages 10 and up.
Mercantile Apron Pattern One
The first pattern in the Learn to Sew series is the Mercantile Apron. It is a classic design inspired by a favorite shopkeeper, Nels Oleson.
It is a perfect first project for those who wish to learn how to sew. You will learn how to print out a PDF pattern, put it together and then cut out the pattern.
The sewist will then be instructed on how to sew a straight stitch and garment hemming.
This design can be either hand or machine sewn.
Ma’s Apron Pattern Two
Once you have mastered the first pattern you can then move on to Ma’s Apron which is available in two lengths.
Building on the skills mastered in the first pattern you will then learn how to gather fabric, as well as make a waistband and ties.
Half-Pint Pinafore Pattern Three
The third pattern in the Learn To Sew series is the Half-Pint Pinafore.
Continuing to build on sewing skills this adorable pinafore pattern provides instruction on how to sew a round necked yoke, create pockets as well as sewing buttonholes and adding buttons.
Schoolhouse Pinafore Pattern Four
The fourth pattern in the Learn To Sew series is the Schoolhouse Pinafore.
The schoolhouse pinafore features a yoke with a square neckline and flutter sleeves.
Prairie Apron Pattern 5
The fifth pattern in the Learn To Sew series is the Prairie Apron.
This full coverage apron features a bib front with a ruffled sleeve option and pockets.
Laura’s Sunbonnet Pattern Six
The sixth pattern in the Learn To Sew series is Laura’s Bonnet.
This iconic design features sizing for both children and adults. You can add a ruffle or embellishment to the brim.

Your sewing skills are so clever Laura and as you remember, I bought a white apron from you many years ago and I still use it to this day. I believe it is the pattern of Ma’s Apron. Congratulations on your new launch of sewing and patterns. I used to sew a lot but over the years my machine now sits idle, but available for quick mends or ‘put togethers”…no more of a complete ‘making an outfit’ I donated many of my patterns to the local Kiwanis (like Goodwill)…many from the 60’s, and 70’s….and of course yards and yards of material. Thanks for sharing your talents and have a very special week.
