Today is a special day sweet friends! I am so excited to participate in the 2024 Very Merry Christmas Home Tours hosted by the lovely Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home. Her classical Christmas decor is so inspiring. If you are coming over from Common Ground let me welcome you to Storybook Cottage. Wasn’t Debra’s vintage tour fabulous? Today I am sharing part two of my holiday decor. I hope you will enjoy A Plum Creek Kitchen Tour.
A Plum Creek Kitchen Tour
Last week I shared A Happy Golden Holiday Home Tour which featured images of the dining and living room areas, the mantel, and the main tree. It was full of golden touches to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Little House on the Prairie.
But in the kitchen I wanted to pay tribute to the simple joys created by the Ingalls family in Christmas At Plum Creek. The episode first aired on December 25, 1974. It remains one of my all time favorites for its sweet and simple message that it is the gifts of the heart that matter the most.
Touches of red are a joy filled pop of color.
In the window is a vintage ornament that pays homage to Ma finally getting her stove.
Right next to it is the class cabinet filled with vintage and antique bottle brush trees and Santa’s collected by both of my grandmothers, Mary and Eleanor.
These are some of my most cherished treasures.
My kids call this Victorian era gem “Cranky Santa”. He makes me laugh and I love him.
The hearth is simply decorated.
The copper pots were shined up to add a bit of sparkle.
This year’s gifts for the neighbors are hand sewn pouches made from scraps of fabric. They are filled with ingredients for holiday coookies and will be passed out later this week.
Plum Creek Crafts
In addition to the cookie bags I made a few simple garlands to decorate the kitchen and breakfast nook.
The white pompom garland is simply just pompoms found at the craft store threaded onto sturdy thread.
They remind me of all the snow featured in both the Little House books and show.
The star garland was created by punching out hundreds of stars from the pages of an old paperback found at the thrift store.
The stars were then stacked in groups of three and ran through the sewing machine.
The star in the middle remains flat while the stars that sandwich it are folded up at the seam to create a 3D effect.
I think the finished look is simple and sweet.
The Book Themed Nook
Several Little House themes are incorporated into the decor.
First and foremost the quilt topper used as a tablecloth. This gem was found by my son’s fiancée, Megan.
The red transferware dates to the time of when Laura Ingalls Wilder actually lived.
A small tree is tucked into the bay window much to the chagrin of Pony the dachshund who often perches there.
The tree sits in an antique wagon found at a German flea market whilewe were stationed at Ramstein AFB.
The stool beside it was made by Mr. Decor’s grandfather, the original Pop Gunn, and sat in his kitchen for decades.
The wee tree topper is a very special ornament made by Casa Bella Creations.
Next to the tree are some wee stockings made by my talented friend Fancy Jayne. Her shop is currently sold out. You can leave a comment below if you would like to be added to her waiting list.
A Happy Little Shelf
This shelf is filled with things that make me happy.
Treasures include Laura’s tin Christmas cup and a charcuterie board gifted to me by dear friend Lulu.
The lovely Santa ornament and peppermint sticks were hand crafted by the talented Holistic Prairie Mama.

Laura, I love this theme:) Your quilt topper tablecloth is wonderful; what a find. It reminds me of my Christmas table last year, which was one of my favorites. Also love the star garland and the 3D effect; I just need to get a star punch. So fun to see the Little House theme throughout your holiday decorated home:) Merry Christmas!

It’s all wonderful, Laura, but I especially love the blue and white dishes with your treasures and your beautiful garlands. I’ll try to get to the video. You know what it’s like before Christmas and this year has been a challenge. What a totally delightful table!
