Hello dear friends! I am so excited to participate in the 2024 Christmas Home Tour hosted by the effervescent Cindy of County Road 407. I loved her cozy woodsy Christmas decor. If you are coming over from South House Designs let me welcome you to Storybook Cottage. Wasn’t Diane’s festive kitchen fabulous? This year I am sharing A Happy Golden Holiday Home Tour.
A Happy Golden Holiday Home Tour
The small entryway sets the tone and color palette for this year’s tour.
A feather tree is ready to be decorated with vintage ornaments to add a bit of sparkle and shine.
I spy a glimpse of the living area.
The Mantel
The living room is a golden winter wonderland.
I had such fun decorating my mantel this year.
You can read all the “little” details HERE.
Can you believe I found this charming deer set out on the curb last year? Yes, I’m a proud trash collector.
It joins another tree and my collection of antique sleigh bells.
My family says that even the tiniest surface is not safe from being decorated during the holidays.
Since the antique Prince of Wales mirror is such a showstopper on it’s own I kept the decor around it fairly simple.
Taking center stage is our schwibbögen purchased while we were stationed in Germany over 20 years ago.
A simple tureen of scented pinecones rounds out the display.
Let’s head into the dining area next.
The Dining Area
The dining area this year feels so soft and serene to me.
I began with a crocheted tablecloth found at an estate sale.
Touches of gold can be found in the flatware and candles.
Linen thrift store napkins for the win!
While all the candles are lit for this photo we currently have only one candle lit for Advent.
More sparkle and shine on the sideboard.
Layers of faux greenery are topped with gold leaves.
Jumping on the bows everywhere bandwagon.
The tiered tray features a few of my favorite things.
Years ago I learned about Wallace silver bells from Miss Mustard Seed. A fortnight ago I found 5 of them at an estate sale for just a few dollars. They just needed a good polish!
The Star Of The Show
In the first season of Little House there is an episode titled Christmas At Plum Creek. It is one of my favorite things to watch during the holidays as the message is so pure and sweet.
A star is featured prominently in one of the storylines.
There are big and little stars on the tree as well as all around the room in various forms.
The bannister has a repetition of the elements found on the tree.
Featured ornaments on the tree tie in to the books as well as the show.
Every year I make 24 handcrafted ornaments. They temporarily grace the tree as visitors to Storybook Cottage are invited to take one home.
This year’s ornament pays homage to Bunny the horse, Pa’s reclaimed wagon wheels and Carrie’s star.

Giving Tuesday
Today is Giving Tuesday. Here at Decor To Adore this year’s fundraiser benefits the Laura Ingalls Wilder’s rock house. This charming home is where Laura wrote the Little House books.
100% of the profits from the holiday sewing/travel kits listed in my Etsy shop will be donated towards a new roof.

Laura, you always have a wonderful cause that you support each year and I love that! <3 The little ornaments you made several years ago graces my tree again this year. Always a treasure!! Someday I will get out to see Laura's rock house that her daughter had built for her mom and dad as they got older. I think Rose lived int he house for a time, too. She wrote some of her stories there, I believe. I love how you've decorated the mantel this year with Little House homes. I will have to rewatch that Christmas episode…
Have a wonderful Christmas season,
Merry hugs,
Barb 🙂

I love every single detail in your golden home! I think I pinned practically every photo. The color combo this year is over-the-top gorgeous and fits your home perfectly. And I need to come over so I can take home a handmade ornament! So fun. BTW, what’s hiding in the basket under the entry chest, hmmm? Could it be a leash or little dog booties? This effervescent enquiring mind wants to know. LOL Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us !
