Hello sweet friends! Spring has arrived in all its glory here at Storybook Cottage. This is the sixth and final post in a series celebrating the 50th anniversary festival of Little House on the Prairie in Simi Valley. I will link to all the previous posts down below. Today I am excited to share Creating A Modern Prairie Lifestyle.
Creating A Modern Prairie Lifestyle
For those who have followed me for years you may be aware of how much I adore creating vignettes with family heirlooms accented with modern finds. It makes my heart so happy to open my home to friends and family members to celebrate even the smallest of joys in our lives. These gatherings often including food, fun and crafts. I’m also equally content with a glass of fresh lemonade and a good book. Both options fit well into a Modern Prairie lifestyle.
I recently spent a bit of time with some like-minded ladies and thought you might enjoy learning about their fabulous community.
Sidenote: I was in no way, shape, or form compensated to write this post. I just want to share the bliss!
In 2022 Melissa Gilbert and Nicole Haase launched Modern Prairie.
Modern Prairie is unique in that its focus is on women over 50.
Yes, the site sells darling apparel and charming home products. But that is just the flaky crust of a delicious pie.
The site has also created a loving community. On the Modern Prairie App women are encouraged to age gratefully and embrace their true selves.
Knowing that technology can sometimes be challenging they show you step by step how you can join in the fun.
Once you are on the app it’s easy to find kindred spirits within various groups such as Green Thumb and Prairie Craft.
I can’t wait to try out some of the fabulous recipes shared in the Prairie Kitchen.
I also have loved all of the selections for the Prairie Pages Book Club.
Trusted Prairians
There are also trusted Prairians on the site such as the lovely Sandy Peckinpah. Peckinpah is the notable author of five published books, and numerous articles for sites such as Medium and Huffington Post. She provides workshops on personal development to help individuals become stronger, more resilient and so much more.
The effervescent Susie Shubert is the author of Little House Life Hacks. Shubert makes me smile in proclaiming that she is a self-starter and a school of rock graduate. She helps others find and connect with their authentic selves through life coaching.
These two lovely ladies radiated joy and I am still smiling over the all too brief time that I spent in their presence.
I encourage you to check out this wonderful community. It’s so amazing to see the genuine and happy connections people are making within the app.
This Week’s Video
Grab a cup of tea beacause this week’s video is chock full of prairie content.
If you wish to view the video in a larger format just click on the black box in the lower left hand corner that says Watch on YouTube.
Coming Up
In the video I mention that Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder) allowed me get up close and personal with one of his original shirts that he wore in the series.
I am getting ready to return to the sewing room to begin work on some new LHOTP characters. So it was very interesting to see how the original sewists constructed a garment.
I hope you have a Prairie Good day!
I’ll be back on Friday,
Laura
