A Velvet Bookmark For Ma

Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the April edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by the fabulous Cindy of County Road 407. If you are coming over from Bluesky At Home let me say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”.  Carol’s post on books pairs perfectly with my 5-minute craft project: A Velvet Bookmark For Ma.

The Challenge

This month the challenge was to create a Mother’s Day gift. But honestly, these velvet bookmarks are perfect for any reader. A small token that would be most welcome at book club gatherings, a party favor at showers and so many more occasions. The beauty of this craft is that it can be easily customized with the color of the velvet ribbon selected or the charm that is attached.

He Calls Me Ma

My son calls me Ma. Since he was a toddler I have always been Ma. It’s a title I treasure. It reminds me of another Ma so beautifully known to the world. That Ma loved books too.

Remember when Laura discovered a book in her beloved Ma’s drawer?

It was a perfectly new book, beautifully bound in green cloth with a gilded pattern pressed into it. The smooth, straight, gilt edges of the pages looked like solid gold. – Little Town on the Prairie, Chapter 12, “Snug for Winter”

I have a book of Tennyson’s Poems. At least once a year I read through it in wonder as Laura once did.

Do you have a favorite book that a velvet bookmark would be perfect for?

This Week’s Video

This week’s short video shows you step by step how to create these lovely booksmarks.

I love how you can easily customize the booksmarks to suit each reader.

What a thoughtful gift idea, Laura! Gifts like this are always so much fun give and receive because you can personalize them in so many different ways. I love the ribbon and the charms you chose. They’re so pretty! Can’t wait to try this too. Big hugs, CoCo

What a sweet idea. I’m always using some crappy piece of paper to save my place so I needed this cute idea. Maybe I should forward this to my kids?! 😉
Thank you and glad you could join us. Happy early Mother’s Day!

It occurred to me just now that I need a beautiful bookmark for my New York Times crossword puzzle book. I have to look up an answer at least 5-8 times per puzzle and I don’t like looking for the right puzzle number every time. I’m beginning to think I’ll never get to Tuesday’s puzzles. I’ve been on Monday’s for three years. By the way, I’ve never heard of a ribbon crimper before but I want to make some ribbon bookmarks and will find some. I’ve got ribbon!
Yes, I’d like to listen to your speeches on any topic.
    ~Love, Ginene
