Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the February edition of the Pinterest Challenge. This monthly event is hosted by the fabulous Cindy of County Road 407. If you are coming over from Peacock Ridge Farm let me say, “Welcome to Storybook Cottage”. Didn’t Renae’s lemon and rose wreath look so pretty? Today’s post here on DTA features a 5 Minute Front Door Spring Refresh.
The Challenge
This month’s challenge was to create a tulip wreath. Our inspiration photo comes from Chatfield Court.
The photo features a circular wreath of various pink tulip blooms.
I don’t use round wreaths on the front door of Storybook Cottage as it has an oval glass inset. So I needed to come up with a new design inspired by this pretty wreath.
Tutorial
Right now I am in the final push to create 14 iconic costumes to display at the upcoming Little House On The Prairie 50th Anniversary Festival. I’m sewing 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. My house is currently in a state of not quite ready for prime time. (smile)
But I do love to have a welcoming entry for family and visitors as well as the many random people who walk by Storybook Cottage every single day.
So I needed something QUICK!
Here Are The Supplies Needed:
- One hanging basket (Mine is vintage but you can find a similar one HERE.)
- Two bouquets of various pink tulips. I found mine at Michaels.
- Scraps of ribbon, lace and tulle/netting. Here are a few options.
The flowers were quickly plopped into the basket which was then hung up on the door.
After a moment of looking at the arrangement I decided it needed softening. So I gathered some scraps of ribbon and lace. They were quickly tied into a bow and placed on the side of the basket.
I stood back and didn’t like that you could see the bare plastic stems peeking through the basket.
On Instagram I had recently shared the stitch and stuff Valentine tea that I had hosted for my dear, talented and supportive sewing circle friends.
I went inside and grabbed the pink tulle bows that had been tied onto the chandelier.
Yes friends, sometimes inspiration strikes exactly like this.
I wrapped the stems in the tulle and tucked in a bit of extra tulle into the basket.
5 Minute Front Door Spring Refresh
Not five minutes later I was satisfied with this arrangement.
I then decided to sweep off the porch and add some fresh blooms to the front porch pots.
That took an hour to drive to the garden shop and then complete the task. But it looked so much better!
Spring Blooms
It also helps that the front garden beds are experiencing a springtime explosion right now.
Pretty purple hyathinths are popping up and smell heavenly!
Does anyone know what these are?
I call them wild violets. They randomly grow in the lawn. I adore them. Mr. Decor says they are a weed.
I shall leave you with a new portrait I like to call Gracie, In Bloom.
Up next is Cottage in the Mitten. You will love Kim’s springtime wreath!
I’ll see you on Friday,
Laura

what a cute idea Laura…so pretty and inspirational. Your lady gathering looks so fun too. Take a breather from sewing every now and then so as not to burn out… although I do’t think you will ever do that because you love it so much. Have a great week. and enjoyable Spring. Hugs

You did a beautiful job on the front door tulip arrangement. The basket is so adorable. And it’s my humble opinion that you can never use too much lace, so the added touch of lace is so lovely. It looks like Gracie is blooming beautifully along with the rest of your garden. lol
Continuing to pray for you, dear friend, in your final sprint to get those outfits finished, and for your health issues. Sending hugs and much love.

Your gathering looks like it was a great success. I’m a big fan of pink florals and your door basket turned out beautiful! Hope you’re feeling better. Happy almost spring!

You are a couple of months ahead of us here in the east and I am pining for pansies! The only gardening to be done here is hanging Irish Spring on the shrubs to keep the deer away and picking up fallen sticks.
Good luck with your sewing. Remember that your health is more important than fame and ask for help!

Love seeing the real signs of Spring around your yard, Laura! I’m loving those aqua and green pottery planters; they look vintage! The tulips in the basket definitely give a hello Spring greeting to everyone; so pretty:)

Love the pink tulips. Maybe a little greenery trailing in the front. I call those wild violets too. I love them, but unfortunately, they won’t grow in the heat here.

I never thought that round wreaths wouldn’t look good on your front door but now I get it! I always thought you and I had very similar doors not thinking yours was oval and mine a rectangle. Weird. Anyway, the basket looks lovely and I love how full it is. Please take care of yourself! Big hugs

Hi Laura, That is a charming picture of Gracie. Good pet photography. I am crazy about that basket and pink tulips and the rabbit adds to the charm. It got me remembering that I have a couple of small fabric rabbits, too. I’ve been sewing myself for the first time in decades. I made curtains for the bedroom and I’m embroidering a new pair of blue jeans. It’s like it is 1969 all over again. I used the Japanese mending technique tonight. That goes fast. I pulled out the 50 antique needle packets I’ve found over the years and I love the quality of them. You name a sewing technique and I’ve got the needles. I’m still so excited and thrilled with the work you are doing now.
