Hello dear friends! I hope you are enjoying some sweet moments in what is probably a very busy week. I have been preparing for A Prairie Wonderland Thanksgiving.
A Prairie Wonderland Thanksgiving
Last week I shared my formal dining room all decorated for the harvest holiday. But I also always set the kitchen table to enjoy a special breakfast at.
I’ve had these Martha Stewart party favors saved for many years. This was finally the year that I chose to actually make them.
I was not able to find the direct link to the printable on her website but I did find the PDF that you can download and print out HERE.
I just saved up empty toilet paper rolls and glued the cut out printables on with craft clue. The paper was held in place with clips until the glue was dry.
This makes this craft perfect for kids.
I filled the favors with candy and of course NUTS!
The centerpiece features Grandma Joyce’s vintage ceramic squirrels which help to carry out the theme.
Ma’s Enormous Pumpkin Pie
In this week’s video I attempted to make Ma’s enormous pumpkin pie from an 1888 recipe found in Ingalls Home Magazine. I think I will stick with a Little House inspired recipe that I shared a few years ago HERE.
This week’s reading, done in the video, is from chapter 19 of Little Town On The Prairie. Here is an excerpt.
“Pa carried the beans Ma bore in both hands the great pumpkin pie, baked in her large, square bread-baking tin.”
Planting Holiday Paperwhites
The planting of this year’s paperwhites is also shared in the video. I often look for charming containers at thrift stores and estate sales.
My favorites include the antique glass jelly molds my dear friend Nicola sent from England.
For those of you who wish to plant paperwhites to give as gifts here is a handy pdf printable I created: paperwhite care
This Week’s Video
This week’s video takes a closer look at the tablescape, creating a garden themed craft and making a recipe inspired by Little Town On The Prairie.
If you wish to view the video in a larger format just click on the black box in the lower left hand corner that says Watch on YouTube.
I’ll be taking the remainder of the week off to spend time with family and celebrate the long holiday weekend. I’ll be back next Tuesday.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Those favors are really cute, Laura! A great idea. (Maybe next year!)
It’s a wonderful table — I really like the squirrels and the natural place mats. No pumpkin pie for us this year, unless Rick makes one for himself! His mom can’t have sugar and if I’m going to have sugar it will be something else! I might try to bushwhack a sugar-free pumpkin trifle. Or maybe we’ll be too full for dessert!
Have a wonderful holiday. Grateful for you!
