Hello sweet friends, Happy New Year! I hope you are enjoying a long holiday weekend. In looking back at the years most popular posts I found that time and again readers loved the Sunday Smiles series. I am very happy to say the joy and positivity will continue on in 2022. To get started I have a happy announcement in today’s Sunday Smiles My Little Pony.
Sunday Smiles My Little Pony
Two years ago our beloved Rudi crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He was the very first dachshund our family adopted from the animal shelter and he lived with us for 16 glorious years. A few years later Franz, who was also a rescue, joined the family. He too has passed on. Then there is our dear Gracie who came to us at age 2 and continues to delight us on a daily basis.
Rudi was at heart the Fashionista’s dog. She has missed him deeply.
The Fashionista is currently living with us while searching for a home to buy. The real estate market is insane here in Texas at the moment. Awhile back she had asked if we could get another dog.
It was somewhat easier than the pony the kids used to ask for on a regular basis.
She specifically wanted a puppy.
At the heart Mr. Decor and I are still very committed to adopting shelter dogs.
Now, if you can believe it, in the many years I have walked on this planet I have never had a puppy.
Mr. Decor and I decided that if the family was going to experience this joy this was the ideal situation. Most of the responsibility of the training would fall to our daughter as this would be primarily her dog.
Meet Holden “Ponyboy” Pawfield
We adopted a shaded cream (gold/blonde) longhair dachshund at 8 weeks old shortly before Christmas.
His literary name was selected by the Fashionista. Holden Caulfield is the main character from the classic The Catcher in the Rye. Pawfield is of course a play on words. Ponyboy is a character from The Outsiders. The catch phrase in the book is “stay gold” which has ties to the Robert Frost poem Nothing Gold Can Stay.
Now that’s a big name for a dog. So we simply call him PONY.
This golden boy is energetic joy on legs. I don’t think I have met a happier dog.
An Equal Opportunist
While the puppy is supposed to be the Fashionista’s dog I don’t think Pony got the memo. He is an equal opportunity lover.
That includes snuggling up to Gracie. For the most part she is so happy to have a companion again. Except when he wants to share her food.
Pony is already almost the same size as her. Gracie is a very tiny miniature dachshund. He will be in between a miniature and standard sized doxie. This size is referred to as a tweenie weenie. Our Franzie was a tweenie.
Now I promise this is not turning into a pet site. The content will continue to be decor related.
But who doesn’t love a cute puppy?
Let’s Talk Decor
I was going to do an annual top 10 post but time has truly gotten away from me. In a nutshell my biggest post of 2021 was Whitewash, Limewash, or German Schmear. This is VERY fitting.
After MONTHS of waiting on appliances, wood, paint…our kitchen demolition will finally begin tomorrow.
The ginormous orange brick hearth will finally be receiving a German Schmear treatment. I can’t wait!
We have been slowly going through the kitchen cabinets and drawers cleaning out what is never used, etc. The remainder will be stored in the garage while we live without a kitchen for 2 months. This is going to be a challenge as our family RARELY eats out.
A remodel AND a puppy? What on earth was I thinking?
My plan is to try and produce two posts a week for the next 2 months. One post will focus on the kitchen remodel and the other will be showcasing wonderful things I find around the web in Sunday Smiles.
That said I am giving myself grace that in living in such turbulent surroundings this may not happen.
But the future looks SO bright we all gotta wear shades.
I’ll see you next Sunday.

Cutest EVER! I love the beautiful blondish color — oh, that’s gorgeous. And he looks to be a little love! Yes, you are bold, hitting and reno and a puppy at the same time but you are lucky to have good support! But what a wonderful journey it will be — and what joy to anticipate in the new year — a new kitchen and a new little love!

Pony is absolutely adorable! How lucky you were to be able to get the breed and a puppy! I have a cousin who has seven dachshunds, and she loves them so much! Congratulations to you all.
