Bridgerton Inspired Beaded Regency Gown

Hello sweet friends. Welcome to a historic Fashion Friday. Today’s post features a Bridgerton Inspired Beaded Regency Gown.

Back in late February, a severe snowstorm shut down the state of Texas for several days. Many, ourselves included, were without power and water for several days. I spent my days helping neighbors in need and hand-beading a Regency-era gown. It was inspired by the lovely dresses featured in the recent Bridgerton series on Netflix. After joining the Bridgerton-inspired Costuming Facebook page organized by Bianca Hernandez I set to work.

The Pattern

I used a pattern that is well-loved by many. The Laughing Moon #138 Ladies’ Back Closing Regency Gown. The instructions are very good. The pattern pieces went together very well. I am just not quite sure if the pattern is for me or not. Despite making 2 mockups in my proper undergarments I don’t really care for the finished look. But given that I attempted to get the gown to fit well all by myself that may be where the issue lies. Trying to fit a historic pattern on oneself is fairly difficult. Where is a ladies’ maid when you need one?

Pink Silk

I also had just four yards of pink silk on hand. Thankfully I was able to eke out the gown because the fabric was 60″ wide. I had purchased it in the Dallas Fabric District. It was just $5 a yard as there were a few flaws in the fabric. Most are hidden in the sleeves which I covered in a net overlay.

The hand beading took around 30 hours + to complete. Both bugle and round glass beads of various sizes were used as well as some iridescent sequins.

Hand beaded

I’m still trying to find a Regency-inspired hairstyle that is flattering on me.

These photos were taken just a few days after the snowstorm. It’s amazing how the weather can change so quickly!

I may change the hook and eye closure to buttons as I don’t really care for how it looks.

And thank you for sharing the tip about keeping the pins inside the seam allowance while pinning the pattern. xo
