Hello sweet friends! I am enjoying these last bits of August. I shall miss the ice cream man who stops in front of Storybook Cottage every Wednesday afternoon. But it is almost time for FALLIDAY. What is Falliday you ask? Generally, on September 1st the Fashionista and I stop at a coffee shop to buy seasonal lattes. Cinnamon for me and Pumpkin Spice for her. We then head to the bookstore to buy the very best September issues. Vogue for her, and often Country Living for me. It is a gentle way to transition from summer to autumn. There is no rush to place pumpkins everywhere. It embraces Sunday Smiles Slow Living Through The Seasons.
Sunday Smiles Slow Living Through The Seasons
This is actually the perfect time to begin slow living. There are various opinions on what defines the term. On Pinterest at least 1000 ideas or more are available. The truth is everyone’s definition is different. You must find what works for you in getting the most out of life. But here are two selections that spoke to me.

Our Cozy Cottage
Often when I am hand-sewing or prepping ingredients for dinner I like to have a Youtube video on to glance at. A recent channel I have discovered is It’s A Charming Life. If you like little cottages, classic books, and changing seasons you might like it too. It follows the life of a young couple who live in Sleepy Hallow.
Maple Cinnamon Latte
I rarely go out for coffee. It is reserved as a special treat. Most fall mornings I mix 95% Starbucks unsweetened medium roast coffee (Found in the refrigerated juice section-green lid.) with 5% Coffee-Mate Natural Bliss Cinnamon Cream (At Target in the dairy section.). But on the weekends this Maple Cinnamon Latte is a true treat.

Once again, Paint For The Win! This lovely mountain cottage in Cashiers, NC received a darling update mostly with mere paint.
The best ad I’ve seen in a very long time.
Sweet friends I am going to take the next week off. The little schoolroom must be finished for it’s September 9th reveal and Storybook Cottage must prepare for the Fall Home Tour which starts on September 14th. But most importantly my daughter is home for a week to celebrate Falliday.
I want to savor all of life’s little moments.

That ad is terrific! Thanks for finding that one.
Falliday. I like that. I’m so glad your daughter is here to be able to celebrate your tradition. I hadn’t thought about it, but you’re right — the beginning of September is indeed a slowing down, isn’t it? And it feels natural — I don’t even feel like I have to try, it just happens. Odd, it always used to mark the ramping up of things for me — especially when I was working. But lake life is different. There are fewer boats, less noise, not nearly so many people (although this year I’ve stayed away from the people.) I move more to the kitchen with soups and prepping tomato sauce to freeze. On the cooler days we revisit comfort foods we haven’t had in months, like meat loaf. There are still tasks to be done but they require a different energy. That’s such a wonderful though.
Happy Falliday!
