Hello, sweet friends, my fingers have really been flying this week. I have sewn two 18th century petticoats, a bedgown (a casual wrapped jacket), and more in an effort to create Budget Costuming Plucking The Turkey.
In last week’s post, Slow Stitching I shared that I am trying to recreate the artwork, Plucking The Turkey, painted by Henry Walton in 1776. All the elements need to be finished by next Thursday.

Still on my “Must Make” list is an 18th-century pair of quilted “jumps”.
Jumps Versus Stays
Jumps are a bodice or waiscoat which is often quilted. The garmet helps to support the bust. Compared to a pair of stays (18th-century corset) they have little to no boning. Jumps were worn by upper-class ladies when relaxing in private and the working class as an everyday item.
Angela Clayton shared the construction method of her lovely jumps HERE.
I will probably create my jumps in a similar fashion to the gorgeous set that Couture Mayah made.
It was quicker to make a video that shared the various pieces I’ve made this week and the sometimes unique elements that went into creating them.
I also shared that creating a turkey costume is also on the list. Guess who gets to wear that!?
See you Sunday!

Wow!!!! Laura, I really like seeing how you have put together your costumes and where the fabric comes from. You are so resourceful and give me inspiration to go to estate sales. Sweet Gracie!!! Can’t wait to see her as your turkey❤️

I’ll skip over to your youtube channel to check out the video later today. I like the idea of a jump versus stays. This is such a massive project, Laura. It’s fun to see it develop.
