Earlier this week I needed some thread and headed to Hobby Lobby. Christmas was already set up. It made me feel like a circa 1959 Elizabeth Taylor while shooting the film of the same name. So here’s a last look of Saturday Smiles Suddenly Last Summer before autumn begins.
Saturday Smiles Suddenly Last Summer
Sure to bring a smile to one and all is summer baked peaches and lavender. Simple perfection.
Closing Up The House
Grand old summer homes used to have an elaborate, two-week process of shutting down when the season ended. In Newport, now only the gracious chatelaine of Beaulieu carries on the ancient regime.
How Does Your Greenhouse Grow
You have to see how a run-down old shed was majestically transformed into a lovely greenhouse.
A Last Look At Summer
Sweet Angela recently gave a tour of her summer potager on her blog. It’s truly the kitchen garden of my dreams. She also shared the garden via video. I can never get enough.
A Walk Through Time
If you’ve been following along on my Instagram stories you have seen the “Downton Abbey” dress I’m working on. I’m hoping to wear it to the movie premiere. But it’s also getting a test run at the Kimball Art Museum today. The D/FW Costumers will be walking art for MONET The Late Years. It is the first exhibition in more than twenty years that is dedicated to the final phase of the artist’s career. The costumers will be dressed in clothing befitting the 1913-1926 time span.
Don’t worry, the dress will also get an entire post of its own.

Good morning! I cannot wait to see your dress, after seeing some of your other creations I am not sure that just one post will be enough!
I love these links, Angela is a marvel. IT is amazing what she and her family have done with the house and garden. As for the Newport house, can you even imagine living like this? Amazing.
Have a wonderful day!

I loved the tour of Angela’s garden. I am also excited to see your recreation “Downton Abbey dress.” Enjoy the Monet exhibit I often find inspiration in his work. Thank you for always being here for our Saturday mornings.

Wonderful post as always, Laura!
I was going to head over to Hobby Lobby today for some fall faux flowers and some supplies for a project. Then I thought better of it because I’m sure Christmas is already bursting at the seams and I need absolutely nothing!!!!!
Happy Fall, for now! ;-D

Can’t wait to see the dress, Laura. You will be gorgeous in it! (Can’t wait to see the film, either and I sure wish the Monet would get to Detroit!)
All good. I know what you mean about summer just flying by. I’m sure it’s different in your warmer climate but I feel it’s barely begun!

I love that greenhouse but ordinary, retired people like Jim and I can’t afford such extravagences like that with the glass, so we make do with my simple greenhouse from Rural King ($40) that he reinforced to hopefully withstand the relentless Illinois winds (after round 1 was blown apart in a funnel cloud earlier this spring). Once I move the plants from the patio inside it in October, it will truly be lovely.
Kindest regards,
Linda

Dear Laura, I am looking forward to seeing your dress. I know it will be stunning. Also, looking forward to Downtown Abbey, I was sick when it left the air. It is hard to believe Christmas is out in the stores. We are not even close to Halloween.
Enjoy September, before it leaves.

That greenhouse surely makes my heart beat faster. The plants are out on the porches right now but will have to come in next month. Last year they took up two rooms – I dread having to bring them in this year.
Can’t wait for your Downton dress. We went to see the exhibit of costumes from the show, they were exquisite, but all those people are sure tiny!
