Hello dear friends! As the calendar now reads September I know that fall is just around the corner. However, the days are still quite warm here. Thankfully Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home has organized a fall hop with a theme of transitioning from summer to fall. This is perfect as I am not quite ready to add warm autumnal tones quite yet. So here is A Quiet and Cool Early Fall Kitchen at Storybook Cottage.
A Quiet and Cool Early Fall Kitchen
If you are coming over from Our Southern Home thank you for visiting. I love all of Christy’s fall decor.
If I am honest the cool color palette I use during the summer months is my absolute favorite. I always sort of drag my heels in decorating for fall. The warm tones of orange and rust are my least favorite on the color spectrum. Thankfully, in recent years, more and more non-traditional autumn tones have crept into what is considered acceptable fall decor.
My kitchen already has quite of bit of warmth with its full brick hearth wall.
So when I spied these terrific turquoise and blue potholders with matching towels I practically skipped up to the register.
A quick polish of the copper paired with my new finds created just the look I was searching for.
I pulled a charming $2 garage sale find out of the decor closet. The blue sky in the painting works well with the cool colored velvet pumpkins.
Favorite fall aprons include a linen cross back, my grandmother’s gingham, and the vintage tablecloth apron I made a few years ago.
Getting Warmer
I did sneak in a few traditional fall colors over in the breakfast nook.
A few more velvet pumpkins grace the table.
The sweet wheelbarrow centerpiece has graced our autumn table for 22 years now. Mr. Decor gave it to me full of flowers while we were dating.
I think the warm tones still work well with the cool colored plates.
Plenty of cream and ivory flowers combined with greenery tie the two together.
The goblets are from Ikea. I need to get a few more!
Tarnished silver is ok in the fall, right?
I hope you have enjoyed this early fall tour.
Additional Early Fall Decor Ideas
Up next on the hop is my friend Cindy at County Road 407. You are in for a true fall treat!
I’ll be back on Thursday with a recipe for my favorite early fall salad.

I adore your hearth wall! And copper is my friend, too — especially in the fall. It’s warm and inviting. It all looks beautiful, Laura.

I love your transition to fall – I too used flowers for the change.
I spotted your copper with a bit of envy. Ours is not quite so shiny. I say ours, but it’s really Steve’s and he likes the patina on his pans so I don’t touch them.
Angelina says
I love your Fall kitchen! The copper with the blue goes so well!! Also love the brick!
Dianna says
I love your transitional decor! It’s just perfect for this in-between time. 🙂

I read I’m a “true fall treat”. I’m glad this isn’t for Halloween – LOL!
Love how your kitchen turned out. I’m trying to embrace the traditional fall colors this year even though my aversion stems from the dog puke gold walls we had (still have in some places) for years and years. I do adore your pops of blue for fall and how sweet is it that you held on to that little wheel barrow from Mr. Decor?! You are so sweet!
BTW, I will eventually get by your home for my cover. DO NOT GIVE IT AWAY! Big hugs

Laura, I love your tablescape! I myself have a passion for tarnished silver.. I always love a touch of aqua mixed in with fall. I used a lot of it last year, but not so much this year. The hot pads are perfect on the brick.

Laura, your cool color palette for the seasonal transition is the perfect antidote for the sweltering days of Texas summers, still very much in high gear! I, too, love those cool aqua tones. They actually play very well with the copper and other rust tones you’ve introduced. Very pretty, especially against the white in your kitchen. Happy September!
Barbara Harper says
Lovely! May I ask where you got the kitchen hand towels? I’m the same: I love fall colors on trees, but I like them a little more muted in my home. My home is mostly cooler colors, too. I usually wait a while for fall decorations since it will still feel hot and summery here for a couple of weeks.

I’m in love with those mits and towels you found, and I would’ve skipped to the register, too! Last year, I really got into the lighter blues/greens for fall. It’s nice to deviate from the traditional orange/red sometimes. Those pumpkin plates on your table are so sweet, too. I’m happy to be on this hop with you again!

What a pretty way to transition into fall. I love the soft blues and aquas for your accessories and plates. Such a nice change from just the rich colours we will see everywhere in a couple more weeks as the cool temps blow into our area. Not quite ready to accept the cold days ahead just yet.
Thank you so much for sharing your pretty decorating ideas. 🙂
