Hello sweet friends! A happy warm new August to you. I am still in California. Today I’ll be assisting my lifelong best friend prepare for her Father’s surprise 80th birthday party this evening. (It’s ok, he doesn’t read DTA 🙂 It is sure to be a day filled with a Saturday Smiles Floral Fantasy.
Saturday Smiles Floral Fantasy
Earlier this summer I visited the enchanting town of Newport, Rhode Island. I fell in love with the amazing architecture and lush flower-filled gardens. Resident Bettie Bearden Pardee writes a blog, Private Newport, in which she often shares the delights of her hometown.
I loved this image of one of the roses growing in her garden. While the Falstaff rose itself is glorious I found it ingenious that the shutters on her home act as a climbing aid. So clever!
Do Eat The Daisies
August is the month of my birth. I have long admired cakes that showcase real flowers as a pretty embellishment. This delightful confection features organic edible flowers.
A Favorite Feed
The cake above and below was created by the Blushing Cook, Sammi-jo Gascoyne. This sweet baker’s Instagram feed is filled with mouthwatering images of cakes, cookies, and other floral-filled food fantasies.
A Floral Filled Cottage
This charming 16th-century thatched roof cottage, located in Wiltshire, is at its best on a glorious summer’s day. The garden beds are filled with fuchsias, hollyhocks, rose bushes, and petunia-filled hanging baskets. The interiors are also filled with floral touches throughout the home.
A Bountiful Boho Bathroom
Decorators and designers are often on the fence about wallpapering just one wall. I do think if one only has the budget to create a small impact then it is best to select a true focal point to show it off.
A young couple recently renovated their 1898 row house in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The entire home is a Bohemian Rhapsody but I particularly loved the one wallpapered wall in the washroom.

My birthday is in August, too! Early Happy birthday to you! The rose pictures are so pretty. I have rose bushes but hope to have climbing roses some day.

Regarding fresh flowers on cake – you do have to worry about insecricide. Or how sanitary the flower bed was.

There is so much beauty here, Laura, I enjoyed each and every photo. The one of the cottage kitchen especially spoke to me. It has a serene sort of magic.
