Mum’s The Word Fall Wreath Tutorial

While the thermometer might read 110 degrees here in Phoenix my heart says that it is fall. I recently created a new wreath for the front door. Here is the Mum’s The Word Fall Wreath Tutorial. As a child my grandma Mary always had a garden full of beautiful marigolds and mums during the season of autumn. I thought that such a happy memory would be a great way to welcome guests to our home. For the felt leaves I used a template from Creating Cupcakes. Holly used embroidery floss to ... View the Post

Thinking Outside the Lunchbox Mommy Duel on the Playground

For many it’s that time of year again. The annual “What do I pack my kid for lunch?”  blah’s. I used to have this same dilemma until I came across a few blogs that feature Bento lunchboxes. For those of you unfamiliar with the art of Bento, it is a single-portion meal originating in Japan. A traditional bento consists of rice, fish or meat, and one or more pickled or cooked vegetables, packed artistically in a box-shaped container. I will stop right here and let you know I DO NOT take it to ... View the Post

Meandering Through A Mid Century Movie Set

I have been DYING to see “The Help” since it was released on August 12th. I finally went last weekend. Don’t you just love it when something not only lives up to your expectations but exceeds it? Of course, the Fashionista wanted to see the movie for the costuming (which is indeed TO DIE FOR) and I, of course, was eager to view the set décor. It did not disappoint. Aibilene’s kitchen was as simple, sparse and clean as it is portrayed in the book. So we will go Meandering Through A Mid Century ... View the Post

Fall in Love With a House You Hate

I actually lost sleep over my house this past week. I guess the counting sheep were on strike. It seemed like I hated strongly disliked everything in my home. This was probably spurred on by a blog post or magazine article that I had read, which probably featured the house of my dreams and well, reality fell short. Perhaps you have had a similar moment? Here's how to Fall in Love With a House You Hate. Then, I felt ashamed because compared to many, I live in a palace. Here is what set me ... View the Post

Sunday Thoughts on Success

I have been thinking a lot about success lately. This is probably due to my swiftly approaching birthday and a deep hidden gnawing that I am unsuccessful. I chock this feeling up to the general lack of unemployment facing many interior designers, myself included. On a good day I don’t take it too personally and blame it on the economy. But on the bad days… because success is of course what society claims it to be~ wealth, fame and achievement. Right? Here is a Sunday Thoughts on ... View the Post

Wayfaring Wednesday 1000 Islands

The 1000 Islands recently made it onto my bucket list when my cousin in love, T, called me and said “Gotta place for you to go.” Now she knows me well. Indeed it’s not uncommon for her to recommend books, recipes or even real estate ads with a “I think you will like this” attached. More often than not, she’s right. The collection of small islands are nestled in the St. Lawrence river between the U.S.~Canadian border. Their actual number is 1,793. The islands vary in size from just a small ... View the Post
