Leaving D.C. we headed to Philadelphia to visit my cousin E., his wife Sweet T, Nene and Miss M. This is always great fun as they live in a 115 year old house and have a backyard that backs up to the forest. Oh don’t you just love this statue? I think he may be magic. Perhaps he is the secret to the stunning lilies. Or the beautiful blooming pots… …and bright pops of color. But then again, it may be the wise old gnome. Inside happiness can be found in the form of Mr. ... View the Post
National Gallery of Art~ to include delightful antique furniture
Today would have been Rembrandt's 407th birthday. Let’s celebrate! Self portrait ~ 1659 as seen in the National Gallery of Art. After a wonderful weekend in the Virginia beach area we headed north to the Washington D.C. area to visit our cousins L, C and B. If you are a longtime reader you may recall we last visited in 2011. Sailing, Sailing Over the Deep Blue Sea
When I last left you the military police were arresting me at Norfolk Naval Station for peeping into the backyards of the beautiful housing known as Admiral’s Row. Sailing, Sailing Over the Deep Blue Sea. Just kidding. Almost. From there we went to see the Navy’s oldest continually running hospital in Portsmouth. Sailing, Sailing Over the Deep Blue Sea Meandering around Portsmouth we came upon a floating lighthouse. I had never heard of such a thing and thought it was incredibly ... View the Post
She’s A Maniac
I am, for all intents and purposes, a vacation maniac. If you want to torture me just take me someplace new and make me sit in a hotel room. Sweet Boy and I arrived in Virginia on a Friday evening after a full day of travel. No sooner had I unpacked our toiletries Mr. Decor strolled in and said “How would you like to go…” The poor man didn’t even get to finish his sentence as I was already headed towards the door. First stop, Langley A.F.B. to show us where he had been working these past few ... View the Post
A Summertime Table, Good Friends and Thanksgiving Turkeys
I have a friend whose husband was seriously considering the idea of moving to Arizona. They have visited previously in the winter and the spring and loved it. I said that before moving here permanently they should probably come experience a July or August here. They arrived early Thursday with large suitcases in hand. A Summertime Table, Good Friends, and Thanksgiving Turkeys As per my usual happy hostess method, I set a happy holiday table. A Summertime Table, Good Friends, and ... View the Post
Yankee Doodle Dandy Blouse
Staying cool and looking cute is a bit of an oxy moron during the long hot Phoenician summer. Yesterday it was 117 degrees. Blah. Over the past few years I have noticed that it is getting harder and harder to find pretty blouses in cool cotton. The racks are full of heat trapping polyester and rayon but the thought of wearing such a garment makes me break out in a (even heavier) sweat. So what’s a girl to do but make her own cotton tops and blouses. I have to confess that I have ... View the Post
