This past week I was a part of an amazing eight-woman team in a table decorating contest. The contest was held to raise funds for the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in Fort Worth. The Sisters have been a loving fixture in the Fort Worth community since 1873. I hope you enjoy this fabulous over the top Juleps and Jockeys Tablescape.

Juleps and Jockeys Tablescape
This is an annual fundraising event. You may remember last year’s That’s Amore Tablescape which won first place!
All credit for the theme selection and creation of the elements goes to my sons fabulously talented mother in law, Michele, and his new aunt in law, Theresa.
The decorating began in the morning with a plain black tablecloth and seat covers.

The centerpiece featured a large horseshoe made from plywood and covered in dozens of red faux roses my daughter in law Megan had found at an estate sale.

The base of the centerpiece was nestled into a silver champagne bucket and ribbon rosettes filled in the space.

American Girl doll horses for the win!

The napkins were folded into a rose and laid atop two faux magnolia leaves.

The drink of choice for the evening was a mint julep made with Kentucky bourbon.

Each place setting had the most adorable place card.

Hold Your Horses
One of the cutest elements were the plywood horse themed chair embellishments.
They were cut out with a saw by Michele’s husband, Mike, and painted in various colors.

Michele ordered various wigs on Amazon. I was cracking up when she was transforming them into “tails”!

Each prize winning horse had a different name.
Man o’ War is widely considered the greatest 20th-century American race horse.

You may remember the movie Seabiscuit.

The Dessert Table
Entries are allowed to have a side cart to hold desserts. Michele painted a darling bugler that we attached to a vintage cart that normally resides in my pantry.
Later that evening the trays held rose cake pops and bourbon balls.

The Jockey Uniform
Michele created four Jockey costumes.

The jackets were made using the Bomber Jacket Pattern by Jalie.
The caps were created by using the top of the Annick hat only and adding a brim.
They turned out SO cute!

I had to pose with my Pony.

There were four Jockeys and four Juleps.

Other Tablescape Entries
There were over 20 tablescapes that entered the competition.

This cute vignette was aptly named Honk If You Love Jesus!

A safari themed table.

A Grinch themed table.

The winner of the evening was Mad Hatter Tea Party. I think it was the dry ice in the teacups that placed them over the top!
We are already in planning mode to win next years race!

See you on Friday!
Laura

Laura,
That looked like so much fun and I thought you’d table was just great.
Take care, my friend
Betty H.
These are all such fun! So well designed and detailed — I’d hate to be on the judging crew! Boy, did you ever find the right daughter-in-law! Who else would have picked up all those roses at an estate sale and knew they would come to a good use!
Laura, I don’t know how I am missing your posts but they are going to junk mail! I need to start checking that mailbox in the future. However, I adore your table AND you should have won. Your table and costumes were amazing too. I did like the Mad Hatter table but I believe your table had the better elements and the horse tails were perfect as were the handmade (is there any other for you?) jockey outfits. Of course I liked the table you had last year too. You girls are too Mah-vel-lous for words. Hugs and Blessings always.
