Week 2: Sewing A Prairie Dress
The patterns used in the sew-along are Simplicity 3723 (adults) and Simplicity 3725 (children).
This is now the third costume that darling Stevie has modeled for me. She loves Little House and her favorite color is red.
Of course it reminded me of another lovely red prairie dress.
The pattern went together nicely. A beginner could sew it with a bit of assistance.
Laura Ingalls Meets Wednesday Adams
As a thank you for modeling I wanted to create a costume that Stevie would love. In addition to loving Little House darling Stevie likes The Adams Family.
It made me think of the Halloween episodes on Little House. My favorite is the Monster of Walnut Grove where Laura thinks Mr. Oleson has done something dastardly.
The Scarecrow Hat
I gathered various vintage and antique fabric scraps and searched for a “witches hat template” on Google.
I added a bit of raffia and a jingle bell to the top to scare the crows away.
She can wear the hat either up or down.
I love the row of red pearl buttons on the back of the dress.
A Happy Suprise
I waited until the end of the photo shoot to tell Stevie that the costume was hers to keep. The joy on her face was priceless. The moment was captured on film and is featured in this weeks video.
