Hello dear friends! Today I am being joined by 14 other fabulous decorators who are sharing their talents in the Grateful Gatherings blog hop. If you are coming over from Follow The Yellow Brick Home let me say “Welcome!” Amber truly creates the best vintage elegance. I am sharing a Glittery Thanksgiving Wonderland.
Last week I announced this year’s seasonal holiday theme: Prairie Wonderland. All of this year’s holiday decor, crafts, recipes, and more are inspired by the many snowy scenes shared in the Little House books written by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Fast and Easy Tutorial
I’ve had the idea to create a cornucopia centerpiece with softer autumnal tones for a few years now.
Just like my recent Enchanted Halloween Forest Dollar Store Craft I began with some old decorative gourds that had turned color, become dented or weren’t really fit for regular decorating anymore.
Here’s how to transform them.
- Spray paint a cornucopia a light color. (Mine was found at the thrift shop.)
- Give the gourds a quick coat of either silver, gold or white spray paint. Let dry completely.
- For a contrast stem apply a thin layer of glue and add a darker glitter. Let dry completely.
- Then glitter your gourds in various shades of white, silver, gold, and other soft fall colors.
I have created a list of the specific supplies. You can see them all in my Amazon storefront.

I couldn’t resist including a green pumpkin as a nod to Caroline Ingalls’ never ceasing ingenuity.
“Hurry and get the work done,” said Ma. And then, Laura, you go to the corn-patch and bring me a green pumpkin. I’m going to make a pie! A pie! But how… Mary said, and Laura said, A green pumpkin pie? I never heard of such a thing, Ma. Neither did I, said Ma. But we wouldn’t do much if we didn’t do things that nobody ever heard of before.” ~ The Long Winter
Glittery Thanksgiving Wonderland
With my glittery cornucopia centerpiece done I concentrated on decorating the rest of the table.
I found nine of these glittery leaf placemats at the thrift store. They still had the Pier 1 price tags on them. I miss that store. Anyone else?
Then I pulled out some china and crystal that I thought would work well with this design.
The Friendly Village dishes by Johnson Brothers were given to me by dear cousins, Eric and Tara, a few years ago. I love using them in the fall.
My grandma Mary’s crystal and Great Grandma’s silverplate complete the setting.
On Thanksgiving I like to use my sideboard to hold extra dishes as well as prepare for a bevy of desserts.
The Sideboard
Extra plates and cups are set up within easy reach.
It’s not uncommon to have last minute guests join us.
So I make sure that a few settings of dishes and silver are polished and ready to go.
I hope you have enjoyed this Glittery Thanksgiving Wonderland tablescape.

I love your beautiful tablesetting and all the fantastic glitter you added to your pumpkins and gourds. Your dishes are my favorite of all time, and they make your tablesetting so special. Your sideboard looks just as beautiful as your table. I like how you always create such a pretty display on it for every season. Thanks so much for hosting and for inviting me to join in.

Lsura, absolutely gorgeous. We don’t often see all the glitter at Thanksgiving, but it’s perfect. Loving the leaf placemats together for a “runner”. Those are some of my favorite transferware dishes, and your stemware is a perfect and “snowy” addition. Thanks so much for including me. It’s so much fun joining in.

Lovely, Laura. I just put 61 pieces of Friendly Village in our antique mall booth a couple weeks ago, including several serving pieces. I even have glasses and mugs, which I had not seen before. And I have a set of those Pier 1 placemats. This makes a very nice Thanksgiving table setting, with the appearance of frost, which is very common for our region on Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving season to you!

What a beautiful color scheme to set the Friendly Village set with! I never would have thought of using lighter colors like this. And those placemats are glorious! Yes, I was just thinking how much I missed Pier 1 when I drove by their old store today! Always loved their sale racks:) So excited to enjoy all the beautiful inspiration today; thanks for rounding up such a talented group of ladies! Love your holiday theme, too; I need to read those books again.
